Clayton & Crume is a leather goods and lifestyle brand based in Louisville, KY. What started in a college dorm room in 2012 has grown into a brand built on hard work, quality craftsmanship, and treating people the right way. We’ve grown largely through word of mouth and in-person experiences, and we’re continuing to build something that feels personal, lasting, and rooted in community.

About the role

We’re looking for a General Manager to lead our Austin store. This isn’t just about running a retail space—it’s about creating an experience, building a team, and growing our presence in a new market.

You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the store, leading and developing your team, driving sales, and bringing the Clayton & Crume brand to life in Austin. You’ll also play a key role in planning and executing in-store events, local activations, and participating in community shows—helping us show up in the right places and connect with customers beyond the four walls of the shop.

The right person is both operationally strong and creatively driven—someone who can run a tight ship while also thinking outside the box on how to grow the business locally.


Where you’ll fit in

As General Manager, you’ll be on the ground leading all aspects of the store—from team development to merchandising to customer experience. You’ll ensure the store is well-stocked, visually dialed, and operating at a high level day in and day out.

You’ll own your market—building relationships, identifying opportunities for local partnerships, and helping execute activations and shows that introduce new customers to the brand.

You’ll also mentor your team, create a strong in-store culture, and ensure every customer interaction reflects who we are.


What you’ll be responsible for

  • Lead, train, and develop the retail team to deliver an exceptional customer experience
  • Own daily store operations, scheduling, and overall performance
  • Drive sales through strong merchandising, product knowledge, and team coaching
  • Plan and execute in-store events, workshops, and customer experiences
  • Lead and support local activations, pop-ups, and community shows in Austin
  • Maintain inventory levels and ensure the store is properly stocked and organized
  • Continuously look for ways to grow awareness and traffic in your market
  • Manage store expenses and operate with a focus on profitability
  • Hire, onboard, and develop team members as the business grows
  • Ensure the store is always clean, organized, and reflective of the brand

What you’ll bring to the table

  • 5+ years of retail, sales, or relevant leadership experience
  • Experience managing a team and running day-to-day operations
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset
  • Interest in events, community engagement, and brand-building
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
