Job Title: General Laborer / Yard Associate – Scaffolding Team

Job Description

This role starts as a Yard Associate supporting a busy scaffolding operation and can progress into a traveling scaffold builder position working on construction sites across the Charlotte area. You will work primarily outdoors, handling scaffolding materials, loading and unloading trucks, taking inventory, and supporting carpenters and foremen. As you grow in the role, you will help erect and dismantle scaffolding on job sites and have the opportunity to build a long-term career in the scaffolding and construction industry.

Responsibilities

• Station and retrieve scaffolding equipment on the company’s property and in the yard.
• Sort, organize, and stage scaffold materials in the yard for upcoming projects.
• Load and unload company trucks with scaffolding components for carpenters and foremen.
• Take regular inventory of scaffolding materials and report shortages or issues.
• Support the scaffolding team in preparing equipment and materials for daily operations.
• Travel across the Charlotte area as part of the scaffold team once selected for the traveling crew.
• Set up job sites in the morning, ensuring scaffolding materials and tools are ready for use.
• Assist in building and erecting scaffolding structures according to direction from the foreman or scaffold carpenter.
• Move materials safely around construction sites and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Assist foremen with additional duties on site as assigned.
• Help dismantle and remove scaffolding structures at the end of projects or workdays.
• Use a hammer and other hand tools to build, secure, and adjust scaffolding components.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions while performing construction-related tasks.
• Load company trucks at job sites after dismantling scaffolds and prepare materials for return to the yard.
• Wear and use a safety harness when required, initially up to 10 feet, and after the 90-day mark, train and certify for work at higher elevations as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working at heights and on construction sites.
• Pursue scaffold carpenter certification after the initial period to support career progression and expanded responsibilities.

Essential Skills

• Ability to perform general labor tasks in a production or construction environment.
• Comfort with heavy lifting and physically demanding work throughout the day.
• Experience working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn how to assemble and dismantle scaffolding systems.
• Basic proficiency with hand tools, including hammers and tape measures.
• Ability to work safely on construction sites and follow directions from carpenters and foremen.
• Willingness and ability to travel across the Charlotte area for job site assignments.
• Reliability, strong work ethic, and the ability to work as part of a team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Any experience with hand tools or power tools is a plus.
• Background in carpentry, framing, roofing, or general construction is beneficial.
• Experience in landscaping, demolition, yard work, or other hands-on labor roles is advantageous.
• Commercial construction experience is a plus.
• Comfort working at heights, with the ability and interest to be certified to work up to 120 feet over time.
• Interest in pursuing scaffold carpenter certification for long-term career growth.

Work Environment

You will work primarily outdoors on active construction sites and in a large scaffolding yard. The scaffolding location is one of the largest divisions, featuring an open yard facility and a large two-story indoor building of up to approximately 70,000 square feet. The indoor facility includes break rooms, water coolers, and vending machines to support comfort during breaks. The work involves frequent heavy lifting, handling scaffolding materials, and using hand tools such as hammers and tape measures in an industrial and construction setting. You will work in various weather conditions while on job sites and in the yard, and you will use safety equipment such as harnesses when working at height after the initial training period. The environment is fast-paced, safety-focused, and team-oriented, with a strong emphasis on proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective gear appropriate for construction and yard work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Charlotte,NC.
