Job Title: Restoration Technician – Water and Fire Damage

Job Description

This role focuses on supporting restoration projects for buildings affected by water, fire, and other types of damage. You will start your day at the shop, then travel to job sites to help clean, restore, and prepare properties for repair and reoccupation. The position involves hands-on work setting up equipment, moving and cleaning contents, and assisting with demolition and remediation tasks in a variety of building environments.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the shop each day to receive assignments, load materials, and prepare for daily restoration projects.
  • Travel to residential and commercial job sites to assist with cleanup and restoration of buildings damaged by water, fire, and other incidents.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor equipment for water removal and structural dry-out according to project requirements.
  • Carefully remove, move, and clean furniture, office supplies, and equipment from affected buildings to prevent further damage.
  • Assist with demolition tasks, including removal of damaged building materials such as drywall, flooring, and fixtures.
  • Support remediation and construction activities as directed, including basic carpentry and general labor tasks.
  • Use hand tools and other basic equipment safely and effectively during demolition and restoration work.
  • Work in tight or confined spaces, such as crawl spaces under buildings, when needed for cleanup or equipment setup.
  • Perform repetitive lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying of materials and equipment throughout the workday.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area at job sites and in the shop, including proper handling of debris and waste materials.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines when working in flooded buildings, fire-damaged areas, and other challenging environments.
  • Collaborate with team members and follow instructions from project leads to complete restoration tasks efficiently and on schedule.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with general labor tasks in construction, restoration, or similar hands-on environments.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools safely and effectively for demolition, carpentry, and general construction tasks.
  • Capability to perform furniture moving, including safe lifting, carrying, and positioning of heavy items.
  • Basic carpentry skills to assist with demolition, remediation, and construction-related activities.
  • Physical ability to regularly lift 50 pounds and to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday.
  • Willingness and ability to work at ceiling heights when required for restoration tasks.
  • Ability to work in tight or confined spaces, such as crawl spaces under buildings.
  • Capacity to perform repetitive pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying of objects and equipment.
  • Comfort with driving, sitting, climbing, and moving between multiple job sites as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in construction, demolition, remediation, or restoration is highly beneficial.
  • Familiarity with water removal and structural drying equipment is an advantage.
  • Experience working in environments affected by water or fire damage is helpful.
  • Strong teamwork, reliability, and willingness to follow established processes and safety guidelines.
  • Interest in career growth into roles such as case management or project management within the restoration field.

Work Environment

The role is field-based and physically active, with each day starting at the shop and continuing at various residential and commercial job sites. You will work in environments that may include flooded buildings, crawl spaces, fire-damaged areas, and other challenging conditions. The position involves exposure to cleaning agents and frequent tasks such as standing for long periods, climbing, driving between locations, and working at ceiling heights or in tight spaces. The work is hands-on, using tools and restoration equipment in settings that can be wet, dirty, or damaged, and requires appropriate work attire suitable for construction and cleanup activities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alexandria, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
