We are 40 years in business and a growing construction and development company based in Nashville, specializing in residential / commercial / general contracting. With a strong pipeline of projects across Middle Tennessee, we are seeking a highly experienced Full-Charge Bookkeeper to manage all accounting functions with a sharp focus on construction-specific accounting.
Position Summary
We are looking for a seasoned construction accounting professional who can independently handle full-cycle bookkeeping and job-cost reporting with minimal supervision. This is a critical role that directly supports project profitability, cash flow, and financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage full-cycle bookkeeping including AP, AR, payroll, bank reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Perform accurate job costing, tracking expenses, change orders, and variances across multiple projects.
• Handle construction-specific tasks: progress billing, AIA forms, retainage, lien waivers, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Prepare and manage monthly bank draws and loan disbursements.
• Prepare financial statements, WIP (Work-in-Progress) reports, and job profitability analysis.
• Reconcile job costs with the general ledger and ensure accurate overhead allocation.
• Manage certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting as needed.
• Work closely with project managers and ownership to provide timely financial insights.
• Maintain compliance with construction accounting standards and tax requirements.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of full-charge bookkeeping experience specifically in the construction industry (required).
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including job costing, progress billing, and retainage.
• Technical Skills (Required):
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop or Online (strong required; must be able to work independently with advanced features).
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas, data analysis, and financial reporting).
• Solid understanding of construction management software integration (e.g., linking accounting systems with project tools).
• Preferred Technical Skills:
• Experience with construction-specific platforms such as Procore, Foundation Software, Sage 300 / Sage 100 Contractor (including Timberline), Viewpoint, Buildertrend, or similar ERP/project management systems.
• Familiarity with payroll systems and tax reporting tools.
• Experience with payroll processing, sales & use tax, and 1099 management.
• High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with non-accounting team members.
• Construction-specific certifications (e.g., CCIFP) or accounting degree preferred but not required.
