Forensic Mechanical Engineer

Location: Austin

Full-Time | Hybrid


A confidential consulting firm is seeking a Forensic Mechanical Engineer to carry out evaluations of building systems, equipment performance, and causation analysis across a range of commercial and industrial properties. This role involves both technical engineering work and investigation-based consulting, with exposure to insurance, legal, and owner-side clients.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site assessments of building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • Diagnose failure mechanisms and system performance issues
  • Produce written findings, technical opinions, and repair recommendations
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on project deliverables
  • Oversee small to mid-sized assignments independently with limited oversight
  • Support client relationships and repeat work opportunities


Qualifications

  • PE license required (or ability to obtain via reciprocity)
  • 7+ years of MEP engineering experience
  • Design domain knowledge
  • Experience in troubleshooting, diagnostics, system evaluations, or claims-related work
  • Strong analytical and report-writing ability
  • Comfortable working independently in the field as well as in a consulting setting
  • Master’s degree in engineering preferred
