THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a hands-on leadership role owning maintenance across the hauling fleet - residential, frontload, and commercial trucks running varied diesel platforms. You'll lead the Lead Mechanics at each site, partner with a Maintenance Supervisor, and keep the fleet safe, reliable, and DOT-compliant while controlling parts, fuel, and maintenance spend. The client is intentionally seeking an external leader with a fresh perspective - someone who leads from the shop floor, runs a disciplined preventive maintenance program, and puts safety before schedule.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
- Lead and supervise all maintenance staff and shop operations across hauling sites
- Schedule and manage preventive maintenance and repairs to keep the fleet road-ready
- Drive preventive maintenance program performance across residential, frontload, and commercial trucks
- Ensure DOT, OSHA, safety, and company compliance standards are met in every
- Maintain accurate inspection, maintenance, and safety records
- Coordinate equipment and fleet availability with Operations leadership
- Conduct safety meetings and enforce safety policies - safety before schedule
- Manage parts inventory, fuel usage, and the maintenance budget
- Oversee shop cleanliness, appearance, and facility up
- keepRecruit, train, evaluate, develop, and discipline Lead Mechanics and maintenance staff
WHAT YOU BRING
- Strong fleet management background across mixed truck and diesel engine types
- Hands-on diesel engine maintenance expertise (varied truck/engine platforms)
- Proven leadership of preventive maintenance programs
- P&L basics - managing parts, fuel, and maintenance spend to budget
- Safety-first leadership mindset with DOT and OSHA compliance experience
- DOT certification for air brake and annual vehicle inspections
- Valid CDL, or ability to obtain within 6 months
- High School Diploma or GED
- Willing to travel ~50%, up to 100% temporarily based on operational needs
- Able to work in a shop environment (weather, noise); lift up to 50 lbs regularly and 100 lbs occasionally
