Product Development & Production Specialist
Fine Jewelry Product Development & Production Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development of fine jewelry from concept through approved production, with a strong focus on design translation, technical execution, and accurate cost modeling. This role ensures that creative vision is transformed into manufacturable, high-quality products that meet brand standards, margin targets, and delivery timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Costing, Quoting & Margin Management
- Review and approve CADs, technical drawings, and specifications for accuracy, feasibility, and quality
- Own the development of accurate and detailed production quotes
- Partner with vendors to establish costs for metals, labor, components, and setting
- Evaluate and approve vendor quotes to ensure alignment with margin targets, including price increases for existing production
- Analyze cost drivers and recommend design or production adjustments as needed
Vendor & Development Partner Management
- Lead vendor engagement during product development and quoting phases
- Create job bags based on customer orders, selecting appropriate vendors based on capacity, quality, and cost structure
- Ensure vendors adhere to approved designs, costs, and timelines
- Resolve development-stage issues related to feasibility, cost, or execution
- Track timelines and deliverables, updating systems and key players as necessary
Production & Quality Oversight
- Ensure quality standards established during development are maintained in production
- Support escalation and resolution of complex production or quality issues
- Review production performance metrics and approve corrective actions
- Ensure alignment between product development decisions and production realities
Process Optimization & Standards
- Establish standardized product development and quoting processes
- Improve development timelines, cost accuracy, and first-pass approval rates
- Implement tools and documentation that improve clarity and repeatability
- Drive continuous improvement in development-to-production handoff
- Prepare product development operations to scale with business growth
Requirements
- 5+ years of fine jewelry manufacturing and product development experience
- Deep expertise in fine jewelry construction, materials, and stone setting
- Proven experience reviewing CADs and technical drawings
- Strong background in production costing, vendor quotes, and margin management
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, especially Excel and google sheets
- Exceptional technical judgment, leadership, and problem-solving skills
