Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead the financial operations of our privately owned country club. This role is responsible for overseeing accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls, while supporting the club’s leadership team in strategic decision-making. Given the size of our club, this position is hands-on and includes direct involvement in member financial services and day-to-day cash oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and/or manage all core accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cash management
- Reconcile monthly all bank/credit card accounts
· Process and remit monthly sales tax filings; review payroll tax filings to ensure accuracy and timely compliance
- Create, maintain, and update account schedules and supporting reconciliations
- Monitor payroll processing for accuracy, including wages, deductions, and tax withholdings
- Audits petty cash fund
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements
- Develop and manage the annual budget and ongoing financial forecasts
- Monitor financial performance and provide analysis and recommendations to management
- Maintain and enforce internal controls to safeguard club assets
- Coordinate audits and work with external accountants and advisors
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax regulations and reporting requirements
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff
- Collaborate with department heads to improve financial processes
- Manage capital expenditure tracking and long-term financial planning
Member & Club-Specific Responsibilities
- Oversee and process membership billing, including dues and member charges
- Monitor and actively collect on past-due member accounts in a professional manner
- Investigate and resolve member charge disputes in coordination with club departments
- Maintain strong member relationships while upholding financial policies
- Ensure accuracy and reconciliation of point-of-sale and member account systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including leadership responsibilities
