Financial Controller

Chicago, IL (Chicago Heights) - 5x on-site weekly

Their work requires close coordination with union (IMS) and non-union (FM) labor, contractors, and field teams to ensure projects remain compliant, organized, and running efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Oversight: Process payroll across multiple job sites, wage classifications, and union jurisdictions. Manage union reporting, fringe benefit contributions, and labor compliance documentation and prepare and submit certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage documentation as required
  • Financial Reporting: Lead the month end close and preparation of financial statements for the entities on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (GAA
  • Job Costing: Manage AP and invoicing for projects and apply best practices for job costing and WIP accounting
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct in-depth financial analysis, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and cost analysis, to provide insights into the company’s financial performance and support strategic decision-making
  • Cash Flow Management: Manage cash flows across the organization, ensuring optimal liquidity and forecasting future financial needs
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Oversee the budgeting process, creating detailed budgets, tracking performance, and providing variance reports to support leadership’s decision-maki
  • Compliance: Ensure the company remains compliant with all financial regulations, including tax filings, government reporting, and financial disclosures
  • Cost Management: Identify opportunities for cost savings across the organization and present recommendations to senior management
  • Administrative: Support ownership with day-to-day business operations, reporting, and administrative needs including insurance, benefits, etc.


Qualifications:

  • CPA qualification preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant hands-on financial experience, with a focus on construction accounting including WIP and job costing
  • Strong understanding of percent-of-completion (PoC) and field services/ project-based accounting is required
  • Strong understanding of GAAP principles and financial analysis
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and QuickBooks); experience with ERP systems (Sage, Netsuite, and others) is a plus
  • Experience in a high-growth environment, ideally in a private equity-backed company
  • Comfortable in an entrepreneurial role (i.e. willing to roll-up sleeves, establish new processes/ systems, and can navigate evolving team structurer
