About Us
E-vergent is a growing fiber and wireless Internet provider serving communities across Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. We own and operate multiple regional networks and brands, including E-vergent, and we're expanding: building new fiber infrastructure and bringing best-in-class, high-speed Internet to our residential and business customers.
We are a local team with decades of experience in the industry. We started with a simple idea: that smaller communities deserve the same quality Internet as big cities. We're hands-on, we take pride in doing the work right, and we're looking for people who want to build something real and local and grow with us for the long term.
About the Role
We are looking to add a Field Technician (Installer) to our growing field operations team. This role is focused on delivering great installation experiences to our residential and business fiber customers. From the moment you pull up to the house to the moment service is activated, you represent E-vergent.
Our installs consistently earn 5-star reviews, and that is not by accident. Our installers take the time to do the job right, keep things clean, explain the setup to the customer, and leave the home better than they found it. If that sounds like your style, we want to hear from you.
You'll work closely with the Director of Field Operations, dispatch, and our NOC team to complete installs, verify service activation, and resolve issues on the first visit whenever possible.
What You'll Do
- Perform fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) installations for residential and business customers, including ONT placement, drop routing, and interior cabling
- Conduct fiber tests (light-level checks, continuity) to confirm successful activation
- Configure customer equipment (ONT, router, Wi-Fi) and verify service performance before leaving the site
- Walk customers through their setup, answer questions, and ensure they're happy before you leave
- Keep the jobsite clean and professional, and treat every customer's home with care
- Document installs thoroughly in our internal systems, including photos, notes, and equipment used
- Troubleshoot basic service issues and escalate complex problems to senior techs or the NOC
- Occasionally assist with fixed wireless installs, service calls, or other field work as needed
- Operate and maintain company vehicles, tools, PPE, and test equipment in safe working condition
- Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours outages or emergency repairs
- Comply with OSHA safety standards, Company safety policies, and all applicable laws
Who You Are
- Customer-focused: you understand that the installer is the face of the company, and you take that seriously
- Hands-on and handy: comfortable with tools, cables, drills, and working in attics, basements, and crawlspaces
- Detail-oriented: you care about the finished product looking clean, not just working
- Reliable and accountable: you show up on time, communicate clearly, and follow through
- Comfortable working independently, managing your own schedule and tickets throughout the day
