A well-established Manhattan institution is hiring a hands-on Facilities Manager to lead the daily operations for building complex. The organization runs both a community-facing program and an on-site early education program, so this role spans classroom readiness, event support, building systems, and team leadership. It's a great fit for a strong people manager who knows facilities inside and out and takes pride in keeping a building safe, clean, and running smoothly.


Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of 7 full-time maintenance and custodial staff, including scheduling, work assignments, timecard approval, and support with hiring, training, and evaluations
  • Build and manage complex coverage schedules across a building open seven days a week, spreading shifts thoughtfully and minimizing overtime
  • Adjust staffing on the fly for callouts, time off, and last-minute needs like unexpected events
  • Stay ahead of building maintenance, catching issues before they become problems and keeping repairs and projects on track
  • Oversee building management systems including HVAC, fire alarm, security, surveillance, and access control
  • Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and purchasing of maintenance and janitorial inventory
  • Keep classrooms and shared spaces clean and ready for daily use
  • Coordinate setup and breakdown for in-house events, including chairs, tables, A/V, and equipment
  • Track project progress, support budget planning, and maintain facilities records such as warranties, manuals, permits, and certificates
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for city agencies and inspections, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations
  • Respond to facility emergencies, which can occasionally require after-hours or weekend attention


Qualifications

  • 4+ years of facilities management experience, including direct supervision of a team
  • Proven ability to manage complex staff scheduling and coverage
  • Strong supervisory and people-management skills
  • Working knowledge of building systems such as HVAC, electrical, and plumbing
  • Experience managing vendors, contracts, and budgets
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems quickly, and exercise sound judgment
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience in a school, church, or similar institutional setting is a plus
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
