Job Title: Machine Operator - Fabrication
Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Machine Operator to join our fabrication team. This role involves setting up, programming, testing, and adjusting machines to shape materials according to specifications. You will be responsible for processing work orders, reading blueprints, and interfacing with industrial robots when applicable. Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, test, and adjust machines to shear, pierce, extrude, bend, and shape materials as per specifications.
  • Operate shear machines for bus and steel processing.
  • Process work orders in line with the production schedule or expedited orders.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to produce desired parts.
  • Install, exchange, align, and secure punches, dies, or other fixtures on machines.
  • Interface with industrial robots for material handling.
  • Position and secure materials against fixtures, clamps, or stops on machines.
  • Observe equipment operations and resolve machine control problems.
  • Inspect completed workpieces for defects and verify conformance with specifications.
  • Mark parts with identifying information and stack fabricated parts neatly.
  • Discard scrap or defective materials and initiate scrap tickets for part replacement orders.
  • Coordinate with Material Handlers to ensure material availability.
  • Clean and maintain machines, equipment, and work area.
  • Perform or assist in necessary equipment repairs.
  • Operate a forklift and other electrical material handling equipment.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by supervision.
Essential Skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 6 months of fabrication experience, specifically in forming and punching.
  • Basic shop math knowledge.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with mechanical/measuring tools.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., push/pull/slide heavy materials, and perform coordinated movements.
  • Capability to stoop, bend, squat, crawl, and climb.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • CNC Programming preferred.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to handle heavy materials and work in loud environments.
  • Safety advocacy and quality orientation skills.
  • Cooperation and adaptability in a team setting.
  • Spatial reasoning and geometric shape matching abilities.

Work Environment

Work in a climate-controlled facility during the 2nd shift from Monday to Friday, 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM. Overtime is voluntary, with a sign-up sheet available one week in advance. The site is unionized, offering eligibility for conversion after 90 days of employment, with subsequent pay increases every six months.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $18.50/hr.
