JOB PURPOSE:

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, The EHS&S Specialist will coordinate and oversee the company’s environmental, industrial hygiene, health and safety programs in accordance with company, state and federal requirements, as well as act as a catalyst for the growth and development of Spectrum’s ESG initiative throughout the organization. This individual will be responsible for facilitating EHS and policies and procedures as they relate to EPA/DEP, OSHA, and other related registrations. This role works closely with the site Leadership Team, DuPont Health Services, and regional/business EHS leaders to ensure programs meet corporate governance and applicable regulatory requirements.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Serve as the EHS representative on the site management team.
  • Work a day-shift schedule and participate in an on-call rotation as needed to support site operations and emergency response.
  • Manage all site permits to ensure continuous license to operate.
  • Manage submission of all permit- and regulation-required agency reports.
  • Analyze EHS performance and develop strategic improvement plans and goals to integrate improvements into business operations.
  • Manage site emergency services, security, and business continuity programs and integrate these programs into business operations.
  • Provide EHS guidance to drive a “Commitment to Zero” safety culture.
  • Lead site machine/equipment safety efforts, including hazard/risk assessments, guarding requirements, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and support for equipment changes and start-ups.
  • Lead integration and compliance projects to meet local, state, and company standards, as well as industry best practices.
  • Support EHS-related facility projects (electrical/mechanical infrastructure upgrades) by helping scope work, coordinate outside contractors, and track execution to successful completion.
  • Collaborate with DuPont EHS peers, associations, and site/business partners to share tools and influence EHS policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Oversee site industrial hygiene programs, including occupational exposure monitoring.
  • Develop and execute internal (1st-party) EHS audit plans; review results, communicate gaps, and drive continual improvement.
  • Support the injury/illness recordkeeping and case management process; maintain relevant logs and documentation.
  • Conduct field audits and maintain a visible presence through employee interactions.
  • Provide supervisory guidance and development to EHS resources to ensure technical, functional, and operational skills remain current and effective.
  • Serve as the site Safety Committee Team Leader.
  • Manage the site EHS training program (third-party training, internal materials, and site-specific content).
  • Lead near-miss, accident, and injury investigations, including root-cause analysis and contributing-factor identification.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience supporting site operations; manufacturing environment with responsibility for Environmental, Health and Safety.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a science or technical discipline, EHS, or a related field (or equivalent relevant EHS experience).
  • Knowledge of federal and state requirements pertaining to OSHA, EPA, Process Safety, Emergency Response, Environmental Controls, Ergonomics, and Workers’ Compensation.
  • Strong leadership and people management/development skills in an industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, drive change, and work independently.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. and Arizona occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing equipment/machine safety in an industrial environment (e.g., presses, extruders, and custom fixtures) preferred.
  • Project management experience coordinating facility/contractor work scopes and schedules in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience delivering training and presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related tools; able to support EHS systems such as Cority (industrial hygiene) and/or ETQ Reliance.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% (training, network meetings, and audit participation).
  • Ability to problem solve, identify errors and deficiencies and perform research independently.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to their job function using pre-established guidelines and instructions.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude.
  • Ability to comprehend and comply with company safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with all SPG and Dupont safety policies and procedures.


Preferred:

  • RAC certification
  • Prior strategic experience with regulatory agencies regarding domestic and international product submissions within the medical device industry
  • Experience in manufacturing or with Medical Devices
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Requires light physical activity performing non-strenuous activities of a decision-making nature. Requires moderate periods of sitting, using a computer, as well as periods of standing and walking around the manufacturing facility where protective clothing might be required as deemed necessary. In addition, it is necessary to attend occasional manage/project meetings.
