Environmental Health and Safety Specialist - Assembly

As a full-time EHS Specialist in the Operations Department at Aalberts, you will be responsible for supporting and driving environmental, health, and safety initiatives across the Assembly operations. This role partners closely with plant leadership, supervisors, and employees to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements while fostering a proactive, prevention-based safety culture.


The EHS Specialist will lead safety initiatives, audits, investigations, compliance activities, training programs, and employee engagement efforts to reduce risk, prevent injuries, and support continuous improvement throughout the facility.

your challenge

  • Support and drive implementation of EHS programs focused on injury prevention, regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, and employee engagement.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through employee involvement, leadership partnership, coaching, and accountability.
  • Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, and behavioral observations throughout assembly and foundry operations.
  • Identify hazards and partner with operational leadership to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead and participate in incidents, accidents, near-miss, and root cause investigations while tracking corrective action completion.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DHEC, and other applicable environmental and safety regulations.
  • Maintain required EHS documentation, records, permits, reports, and regulatory submissions.
  • Coordinate and support site safety committees, emergency response initiatives, and safety engagement activities.
  • Assist in development, implementation, and delivery of EHS training programs including new hire orientation, PPE, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, confined space, forklift safety, and other required training.
  • Support PPE assessments, selection, implementation, and compliance monitoring.
  • Monitor contractor safety compliance and support vendor management related to EHS activities.
  • Assist with workers’ compensation investigations and return-to-work coordination as needed.
  • Track and trend EHS metrics to identify improvement opportunities and support operational goals.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Aalberts values and operational excellence objectives.
  • Provide EHS support across multiple shifts and departments as business needs require.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by your manager.


requirements

  • 2-3 years’ experience in a similar position within a high-volume manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, preferred, or related discipline with equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Functional EHS Knowledge in regulatory requirements, EHS technical aspects (safety, industrial hygiene, environmental), risk management, behavior-based safety, training, auditing and program review, regulatory agency enforcement, EHS vendor and consultant management, business knowledge required.
  • Proven track record in driving cultural change in Environmental health and safety.
  • Strong communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and influence management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks without losing momentum while also completing all daily tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Proficient with the use of safety equipment appropriate to areas of responsibility.
  • Understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects for analysis and interpretation of procedures, policies and practices attainable through specific education and/or training programs in a specialty or technical field.

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for computer work, data entry, and handling documents.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds, such as files, boxes, or product samples.
  • Visual acuity to review detailed reports, production schedules, and inventory data on screens and in print.
  • Clear verbal communication skills to coordinate with suppliers, production staff, and logistics partners.
  • Primarily based in production and warehouse areas.
  • Exposure to a manufacturing environment that may include noise, temperature variations, and moving equipment.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, safety vest, and steel-toed shoes when on the shop floor or near loading docks.

The salaried rate for this role is fair and decided upon based on experience and proven skills alignment through our interview process. This role will observe our company’s 12 paid holidays, generous paid time off and competitive full suite benefits package.
