Qorvo is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer to support all aspects of our EHS program in Greensboro, NC. This role reports to the site EHS Manager and is a critical contributor to the performance of the site environmental, health and safety programs. This role will also have the opportunity to work in collaboration with other sites and Corporate EHS on standards development for the broader Qorvo organization. The EHS Engineer has key responsibilities for ensuring ongoing compliance with state and federal regulations applicable to site operations and maintaining strong relationships with local regulators.
This position will be responsible to support and review EHS programs, and to drive improvements to promote a safe and healthy workplace for all personnel. Role scope includes all Qorvo operations at the Greensboro campus, including but not limited to conducting periodic audits and assessments, identifying and resolving problems and ensuring necessary changes are implemented. This role will also contribute to meeting our Corporate EHS objectives and the fostering of a culture of ownership that identifies, controls, and eliminates hazardous conditions, before they lead to injury and/or property damage.
The EHS Engineer will perform EHS functions critical to the operations of the site, in partnership with operations, facilities, quality, engineering, R&D and other departments to promote sustained EHS compliance through the implementation of high-quality procedures and training consistent with Qorvo’s policies and guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and continually improve environmental, health and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory, customer and corporate requirements.
- Conduct hazard assessments with focus on risk mitigation and good work practices addressing hazard communication, fall protection, electrical safety, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, chemical exposure, machine guarding, ergonomics, and PPE.
- Support environmental, health and safety related reporting commitments, maintaining compliance with corporate expectations, sustainability commitments, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in incident investigations, including identification of root causes and implementation of effective corrective actions.
- Conduct routine internal environmental, health and safety audits and support external audits.
- Work independently to identify, plan, and complete work that has a positive impact on sustained worker health and safety.
- Support the delivery of engaging EHS training and orientation to promote a strong safety culture.
- Actively participate in site Safety Committee and Emergency Response initiatives and oversight.
- Participate in cross-site EHS collaboration with peers at other sites.
- Coordinate and conduct site assessments for program implementation and compliance issues to ensure operational activities are consistent with the needs of the organization and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Support sitewide understanding of the regulatory obligations and other site requirements that apply to our operations by interacting with all levels of the organization including management, technicians, and maintenance staff.
- Assist in EHS administrative responsibilities including 6S audits, quarterly EHS Scorecard updates, monthly metrics, internal audits, equipment calibration, and safety concern follow-ups.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, or related field of study.
- 2+ years of hands on EHS experience supporting program development, implementation, and/or oversight within the semiconductor or other high-tech industry.
- Working knowledge and understanding of general industry safety regulations (29 CFR 1910).
- Technical knowledge in occupational health and safety with experience in hazardous materials management, fire and electrical safety, risk assessment, and emergency response.
- Technical knowledge in the area of environmental management including work experience with meeting Water, Air, Waste, and/or DOT compliance requirements.
- Strong problem-solving and creative skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to professionally communicate at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to assess personal job performance and seek assistance when needed.
- Proficiency in MS Office products. (Power point, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams)
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing business and customer needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- General Industry OSHA 10-hour certification.
- Experience working within ISO 14001/45001 Management Systems and/or supporting Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) Code of Conduct adherence.
- Experience with LEAN manufacturing principles and support for continuous improvement.
- Enthusiastic and innovative approach to safety and continuous improvement.
