Engineering Manager

Savant Group
Michigan, United States

We’re hiring an Engineering Manager to own how our products are built, improved, and delivered—end to end.

This role isn’t about sitting above the work. You’ll drive projects forward, remove roadblocks, and make sure nothing slips through the cracks. From new instrument development to improving existing products, you’re responsible for execution, not just oversight. You’ll lead engineering from concept through manufacturing, working closely with operations, quality, and leadership to keep priorities aligned and projects moving.

Who We Are

The Savant Group isn’t a single company—it’s a group of specialized businesses that solve complex, technical problems for customers around the world. Headquartered in Midland, Michigan, our companies—Savant Labs, Tannas Company, King, and the Center for Quality Assurance—build and support precision equipment and testing services used across lubrication, transportation, manufacturing, and energy industries.

What matters more than what we do - is how we do it.

We’re a team that values:

  • Getting it right the first time
  • Taking ownership instead of passing problems
  • Moving with urgency—but never at the expense of quality
  • Continuously improving how we work and what we deliver

This isn’t a passive environment. People here are expected to think, contribute, and follow through. In return, you get to work on meaningful, technical products with a team that takes pride in doing things the right way.

What You'll Own

You’ll lead the company’s engineering function end-to-end, driving product development from concept to manufacturing. Your mission: deliver high-quality products on time, with precision, efficiency, and technical excellence.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll guide your team through complex engineering challenges, set clear priorities, and ensure projects stay on track. You’ll work closely with Sales, Operations, and Production to align engineering efforts with business goals and customer needs.

In our small, specialized organization, you’ll have broad exposure and influence across engineering operations. The ideal candidate balances technical expertise with leadership, takes ownership of results, pushes progress forward, and actively develops their team to achieve excellence.

All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to the established policies, procedures and guidelines within the department/site and the Savant Group. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Responsibilities may be added or changed at any time to meet the needs of the organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead product development from concept to production, ensuring quality, timelines, and business alignment.
  • Deliver a minimum of two new products per year and maintain a rolling 36-month product pipeline.
  • Establish project priorities, milestones, and deliverables; monitor progress.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex electromechanical products.
  • Guide product transitions into manufacturing with validation and proper documentation.
  • Implement structured project management and stage-gate practices.
  • Evaluate design, materials, and processes for performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Manage engineering resources, workload, and priorities.
  • Lead, coach, and develop engineering team members.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and product quality.
  • Support budgeting and resource planning

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 7+ years of progressive engineering experience, including 3–5 years in a leadership role managing the engineering department
  • Technically strong, decisive, and results-driven
  • Comfortable balancing hands-on work with leadership

What You’ll Experience at Savant:

We’re not a “check-the-box” kind of company—and we don’t hire people who are either. At Savant, you’ll be surrounded by people who move with urgency, take ownership, and care deeply about doing things right. We value precision, follow-through, and people who don’t wait to be told what to do.

If you’re wired to:

  • Take accountability without excuses
  • Move at the right pace
  • Take challenges head on - enjoy solving complex issues instead of escalating them
  • Put the customer at the center of decisions

…you’ll thrive here.
