The job description
The Planet Group is seeking an Engineer I role that is an entry-level position requiring 0–5 years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program. This position supports the design and construction of power-related systems by applying standard engineering principles, processes, and software tools.
Key Responsibilities
Apply engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to support system design and construction
Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, design options, and construction specifications
Provide guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews for contractors developing design solutions, estimates, and construction packages
Support the development and maintenance of design standards and criteria
Collaborate with construction and maintenance teams to support daily operations
Estimate materials and assist in preparing and transmitting construction packages and specifications
Core Duties
Promote a safe work environment by prioritizing safety in all activities
Gain understanding of processes related to planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance
Develop knowledge of internal departments and their roles in project execution
Utilize design software and tools effectively
Apply industry and company design standards
Minimum Responsibilities
Retrieve mechanical and electrical drawings from document repositories
Perform field walkdowns to verify and mark up drawings
Create sketches of system P&IDs for missing or incomplete drawings
Assign asset and component identification numbers in accordance with company standards
Develop and maintain naming conventions and tracking spreadsheets
Install and verify physical asset tags
Track project progress and provide regular status updates
Required Skills & Qualifications
Basic engineering knowledge and problem-solving skills
Familiarity with discipline-specific engineering software
Ability to follow established procedures with limited independent decision-making
Strong work ethic and positive attitude
Effective communication and relationship-building skills with plant staff, engineering teams, and vendors
