Peabody & Arnold LLP seeks a career-minded associate-level attorney to work on a variety of issues in the employment practice group. This position will, among other things, perform research, writing and other work relating to all areas of employment law, including, but not limited to, discrimination/retaliation/wrongful termination litigation, wage and hour litigation, breach of contract issues, as well as other statutory and common law claims under state and federal law. This position will also support employer clients by providing day-to-day advice and guidance on a variety of issues impacting the employment relationship.
Responsibilities:
- Perform research into a variety of employment matters
- Draft and revise employer handbooks and policies
- Communicate directly with clients for a variety of reasons including providing day-to-day legal advice, as needed
- Draft position statements and responses to administrative charges (EEOC, Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and other regional commissions and boards)
- Draft motions in federal and state court
- Respond to discovery requests
- Draft deposition outlines, prepare exhibits, prepare witnesses
- Conduct and/or defend depositions, where appropriate
- Assist partners in preparing for mediations, arbitrations, oral arguments, hearings, fact finding conferences, and trials
- Second chair and, where appropriate, first chair mediations, arbitrations, oral arguments, hearings and trials
Skills and Educational Requirements:
- JD from accredited law school and excellent academic credentials
- Active MA bar admission or ability to obtain admission quickly is required; admission to other regional bars, such as RI, CT, or NH, is a plus
- 1-4+ years of litigation experience or employment counseling experience
- Outstanding research, writing, and analytic skills
- Strong communication skills
- Attention to detail and commitment to organization and excellence
- Ability to multitask and work independently within a collaborative team setting
