Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (ED)
Schedule: 3x12-hour Night Shifts (7:30 PM – 8:00 AM)
Shift Flexibility: None – Must be available for the assigned night shift schedule
Contract Length: Through August 2030
Start Date: ASAP (VA onboarding process takes approximately 4–6 weeks)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced acute care environment. The ED RN will assess, triage, treat, and monitor patients presenting with a wide range of medical, surgical, psychiatric, and trauma-related conditions while collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
This role requires a nurse who can function independently, prioritize effectively in high-stress situations, and provide exceptional patient-centered care across all areas of the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient triage, assessments, and ongoing evaluations.
- Administer medications and IV therapies in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols.
- Monitor patients utilizing telemetry and other diagnostic equipment.
- Assist with and perform emergency and bedside procedures.
- Respond to urgent and emergent situations to preserve life and prevent complications.
- Coordinate patient discharges, admissions, and external transfers.
- Provide care to patients with acute medical, surgical, psychiatric, and trauma-related conditions.
- Document patient care accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Delegate tasks appropriately to assistive personnel and support staff.
- Participate in emergency response activities and patient transport as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to deliver efficient, high-quality care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a program accredited by ACEN or CCNE.
- Minimum of three (3) years of current nursing experience.
- Prior Emergency Department and/or Critical Care experience required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Experience caring for trauma, stroke, cardiac, psychiatric, and critical care patients.
- Previous experience in a high-volume Emergency Department setting.
