Service Technician


Summary/Objective:


This role is responsible for programming, commissioning, and supporting industrial control systems across a range of technologies. The position works closely with sales, vendors, and internal teams to translate customer needs into effective system solutions, contribute to service proposals, and deliver reliable, safe, and well-documented services. Continuous learning, collaboration, and adherence to safety and best practices are essential to success in this role.


Essential Functions:

  • Plan and perform programming, troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning of control systems.
  • Provide support and services for various products and systems, including lighting controls, HMIs, PLCs, Drives, Meters, UPS, and SCADA products and applications. This requires a complete working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, a familiarity with PLC programming languages, and common industrial communication protocols.
  • Complete manufacturers trainings/certifications for servicing/starting up their products (VFDs, Meters, Software, ect.)
  • Continuously learn about the latest technologies for the industries United/OnPoint is servicing.
  • Contribute to service proposals for scope and cost of work, including timelines and terms and conditions.
  • Work with the sales team on communicating product and service offerings and capabilities to their customers.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with vendors, customers, and other United Electric products/services departments.
  • Translate customer requirements/expectations into a functional system or solution that technician can execute the billable services on.
  • Maintain proper records of services and projects in accordance with United Electric’s best practices.

Qualifications/Competencies :

  • Electrical, mechanical, chemical, engineering degree or relevant experience
  • Experience with programming, start up, and commissioning of power and control products such as VFDs, Meters, PLCs, HMI/SCADA (Schneider Electric preferred)

  • The ability to act as a resource for the sales team as a subject matter expert when discussing industrial service offerings to customers

  • Knowledge/Experience in the electrical/electronic and mechanical fields.
  • Knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment, including how to use a DVOM, Megaohm Meter, oscilloscope, ect.
  • Proficiency with hand tools
  • Ability to complete tasks for simultaneous projects/service opportunities


Travel:

Large amounts of travel within the territory of New Jersey, Delaware and Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Maryland. 10% travel outside of that area, including training.
