Electrical Engineer - Healthcare Facilities

Position Overview

We are seeking a senior-level Electrical Engineer to join our Houston team, specializing in the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems within healthcare facilities. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in critical power systems, life safety systems, and advanced healthcare electrical infrastructure that ensures uninterrupted patient care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement electrical power distribution systems for hospitals, surgical centers, and medical facilities
  • Develop critical power systems including emergency generators, UPS systems, and automatic transfer switches
  • Plan and oversee installation of life safety systems including nurse call, fire alarm, and security systems
  • Ensure compliance with NEC Article 517 (Healthcare Facilities), NFPA 70, NFPA 101, and CMS requirements
  • Design specialized electrical systems for operating rooms, ICUs, and critical care areas with isolated power systems
  • Implement advanced building automation and energy management systems
  • Conduct electrical system commissioning, load testing, and performance verification
  • Lead electrical infrastructure upgrades while maintaining 24/7 hospital operations
  • Collaborate with biomedical engineers on medical equipment electrical requirements
  • Manage electrical safety programs and conduct arc flash studies
  • Prepare detailed electrical drawings, specifications, and load calculations
  • Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in electrical engineering with significant healthcare facility focus
  • Expert knowledge of healthcare electrical codes, standards, and best practices
  • Experience with critical power system design and redundancy planning
  • Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD Electrical, SKM, ETAP, Revit MEP)
  • Strong understanding of grounding, bonding, and electrical safety in healthcare environments
  • Experience with commissioning and testing of critical electrical systems
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • NFPA 70E certification
  • Experience with smart grid technologies and renewable energy integration
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity for healthcare electrical systems
  • Previous work with major hospital systems
