The Senior Donor Communications Officer provides advanced expertise in donorfacing communications by shaping strategic narratives, leading sophisticated content development, and ensuring cohesive brand voice and messaging across philanthropy. Serving as the Foundation’s chief writer and editor, the position produces highstakes, donorfocused content including leadership talking points, donor reports, stewardship communications, and major campaign storytelling.

The role oversees complex initiatives such as impact reporting cycles, major fundraising campaigns, and multimedia storytelling, ensuring communications are compelling, accurate, and aligned with donor motivations and organizational priorities. As a trusted advisor, this position partners closely with philanthropy leadership, executive stakeholders, and crossfunctional teams to translate clinical excellence and community impact into powerful donor narratives, while mentoring junior staff and upholding the highest editorial standards.

The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to compassionate, humancentered storytelling and a proven ability to transform complex clinical and community impact into clear, inspiring donorfocused narratives. They would bring strong experience crafting multichannel content, interviewing diverse voices, and producing emotionally resonant stories that elevate philanthropy while aligning with IU Health’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.

Reports to: Director-Donor Communications and Annual Fund

Key Relationships: Systems Communications and Foundations

 

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for the position will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Requires 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires working knowledge of fundraising software, i.e. Raiser's Edge, Salesforce.
  • Requires proficiency in MS office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience with a matrix organization and complex work environment is preferred.
