Assistant Director – Logistics Operations (Last Mile)

Role Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Assistant Director – Logistics Operations (Last Mile) to lead and optimize end-to-end last mile delivery operations within a dynamic eCommerce environment. This role will be responsible for driving operational excellence, enhancing delivery performance, managing logistics partnerships, leading transformation initiatives, and ensuring scalable, customer-focused distribution solutions.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in large-scale logistics operations, strong project management expertise, and a proven track record of improving efficiency, controlling costs, and delivering exceptional service levels across complex delivery networks.
Key Responsibilities
Last Mile Operations Management
- Lead and manage day-to-day last mile logistics operations across multiple regions, delivery hubs, and partner networks.
- Design and implement scalable delivery strategies that improve service quality, speed, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Manage and strengthen relationships with third-party logistics providers (3PLs), transportation vendors, and delivery partners, ensuring adherence to service-level agreements (SLAs).
- Monitor and improve key operational metrics, including OTIF (On-Time In-Full), delivery success rates, turnaround times, productivity, and cost per shipment.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on network optimization, route efficiency, delivery performance, and customer experience.
- Partner closely with fulfillment, transportation, customer service, and technology teams to ensure seamless execution of logistics operations.
Program & Project Leadership
- Lead strategic logistics transformation initiatives, operational improvement programs, and large-scale projects from planning through execution.
- Manage cross-functional programs involving automation, process redesign, systems implementation, network expansion, and operational scaling.
- Apply structured project management methodologies to ensure timely delivery, budget compliance, and measurable business outcomes.
- Support strategic initiatives related to capacity planning, peak-season readiness, and logistics network growth.
Risk, Cost & Stakeholder Management
- Identify operational risks and develop proactive mitigation plans to maintain business continuity and service reliability.
- Drive cost optimization initiatives across transportation, labor, vendor management, and operational processes.
- Develop operational dashboards, forecasts, performance reports, and executive presentations for leadership review.
- Serve as a key liaison between internal stakeholders, logistics partners, and senior leadership to ensure alignment and execution of operational priorities.
- Lead communication and stakeholder management during escalations, organizational changes, and major project rollouts.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing logistics and operations teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, operational excellence, continuous improvement, and customer-focused execution.
- Support talent development, succession planning, coaching, and performance management initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 12–15+ years of progressive experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain, or eCommerce operations.
- Strong expertise in last mile delivery operations and logistics partner management.
- Proven experience managing large-scale logistics networks and operational teams.
- Demonstrated success leading operational transformation, process improvement, and complex project initiatives.
- Strong understanding of transportation management, route optimization, logistics analytics, and operational KPIs.
- Experience managing third-party logistics providers and vendor performance.
Preferred
- PMP Certification or equivalent project management qualification.
- Experience working within large-scale logistics, transportation, courier, or eCommerce organizations.

Preferred Industry Background
