Director of Surveillance

The Director of Surveillance is responsible for the strategic leadership and day‑to‑day oversight of all surveillance operations within the casino, ensuring the integrity of gaming activities, protection of assets, and safety of guests and employees. This role directs the design, operation, and continuous improvement of surveillance systems and investigative programs in compliance with all applicable gaming regulations, internal controls, and privacy laws.

HOW YOU WILL CREATE THE EXTRAORDINARY

  • The Director of Surveillance acts as the primary conduit between Senior Management and the Department
  • The Director implements the protection and loss prevention philosophies of Senior Management. 
  • The clandestine surveillance of the slot machines; table games; automated bill breaker, gaming vouchers, coupon redemption and jackpot payout machines; cashiers cage and any satellite cage; all gaming, cashiering, count rooms, food and beverage, hotel, and retail operations. 
  • The audio and video recording of activities in the count room and the video recording of movements of cash and slot cash storage boxes. 
  • The detection of cheating, theft, embezzlement and other illegal activities in the casino, count room, slot booths and cashier’s cage as well as all non-casino operation areas where cash transactions occur.  
  • The detection of any person who is excluded or ejected from the licensed facility or is self-excluded from the gaming floor. 
  • Video recording of those locations, persons, activities, or transactions required to be recorded and the clandestine surveillance of any slot computer system or equipment designated for coverage by the Board in conjunction with the approval of a slot machine system, wide area progressive system, gaming voucher system and any communication equipment with the central control computer. 
  • The video taping of illegal and unusual activities monitored.  
  • Responsible for notification of appropriate supervisors and the Virginia Lottery upon detection and taping of cheating, theft, embezzlement, or other illegal activities.  
  • Adheres to all regulatory, company and department policies and procedures. 
  • In addition, the performance of all duties and responsibilities required under the system of internal controls submitted and approved. 
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders, including legal counsel and law enforcement when needed.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field or the equivalent years of experience required.  
  • Minimum of five to seven years’ experience in security/law enforcement and investigations with at least five years supervisory/management capacity preferred.  
  • Command level supervisory experience (administration, organization, leadership, and investigatory skills) in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, or Regulatory Compliance or related industry experience preferred.  
  • Experience with and a working knowledge of casino surveillance operations is preferred.  
  • Must have proven business, financial, budgetary and project management skills.  
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Must be able to prioritize, direct, and monitor multiple tasks and assignments.  
  • Ability to quickly identify or anticipate potential problems and recommend solutions for variables that can impact property operations.  
  • Ability to analyze problems and apply logical/cost effective solutions.  
  • Must have the ability to work in highly regulated environment and possess the ability to develop outstanding relationships with peers, senior management, and regulators.  
  • Some travel may be required. 
  • Fluent on Microsoft Office software products 
  • Viewed as an outstanding team player. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Key Gaming License from the VA Lottery. 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physically mobile with reasonable accommodations including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., and the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop and stack.  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Must be fluent and literate in English. 
  • Must be able to respond calmly and make rational decisions when required. 
  • Must be able to listen and respond to visual and aural cues. 
  • Must be able to tolerate areas containing varying noise and temperature levels, illumination, vibration, crowds, secondhand smoke and air quality.
