We invite experienced and motivated RNFA's to apply for an exciting opportunity to independently support surgeons and deliver advanced-level perioperative nursing care. In this role, you will function as a trusted clinical partner, providing expert intraoperative assistance while advocating for exceptional patient outcomes across the continuum of care. You will also play a key role in advancing practice by educating staff, driving unit-based improvements, and serving as a clinical resource. Rotating holidays and weekends will be required in the future as service and staffing expands. This position will specifically work with the Neurosurgery department. Eligible candidates may qualify for a sign-on bonus up to $6000 with a 2 year service commitment to UPMC.Responsibilities:

  • PRACTICE

    • Provides assistance intra operatively in exposure, hemostasis, handling tissue and suturing.
    • Practices independently to provide comprehensive and individualized care through the perioperative continuum using in-depth knowledge with advanced clinical experience as the foundation for perioperative care.
    • Knowledge includes surgical anatomy, physiology and operative techniques.
    • Demonstrates manual dexterity and the appropriate use of surgical instruments.
    • Anticipates steps in the surgical procedure.
    • Acts as patient advocate facilitating the best possible patient outcome.
    • Practices continuous surveillance related to safety, Aseptic technique and changes in patient's condition and initiates appropriate action.
    • Demonstrates flexibility to meet unit needs, such as performing circulating or scrub roles.
    • Possesses the ability to obtain and interpret information considering population specific needs.
    • Assures that overall quality of care meets nursing and professional standards

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Four years appropriate clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills
  • Working knowledge of PC operations
  • This position typically reports to the Nursing Director

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Must be currently licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Complete RNFA program
  • Basic CPR
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34 with renewal

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
