This open competitive advertisement is for a Senior Management Service (SMS) position overseeing the Office of Human Resources for the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC).
The Director of Human Resources is stationed for normal job duties at the Central Office in Tallahassee, Florida. This position is not a remote or telework position. This position is supervised and reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff.
As Florida's largest state agency, and the third largest state prison system in the country, FDC employs 24,000 members, incarcerates 80,000 inmates and supervises nearly 146,000 offenders in the community. The Human Resource Director supports a strong and resilient public safety workforce by championing professional development, modern talent strategies, and innovative solutions to workforce management.
Examples of work:
The Director of Human Resources spends the majority of the time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work. The incumbent of this position will have the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action.
