The Director of Events & Convenings is responsible for executing FESI’s national portfolio of events, including the platform’s flagship showcase and year-round “roadshow” of convenings, networking events, and stakeholder engagements.
About the Role
This role owns the planning, logistics, and execution of events that bring together investors, startups, corporate partners, and policymakers to drive commercialization outcomes. The Director serves as an on-the-ground representative of FESI at events and ensures a high-quality, high-impact experience for all participants. This role oversees the full event lifecycle from concept and logistics to messaging, promotion, and post event follow-up. The Director will ensure that all Foundation events are seamless, well attended, and aligned with the Foundation’s goals.
Responsibilities
Event Strategy & Planning
- Partner with internal stakeholders to develop and manage an annual events calendar, including showcases, investors and corporate networking, start-up pitch events and demos, convenings, and special gatherings.
- Partner with Program and Leadership team to align participation and program goals, audiences, formats, and success metrics.
- Design event experiences that advance organizational objectives, ensure strong partner attendance and engagement, and strengthen stakeholder engagement.
Event Execution & Logistics
- Lead all event logistics for FESI signature events as well as local, regional, and international technology and industry conferences.
- Responsibilities including venue selection, vendor management, production schedules, run-of-show, and budgets.
- Oversee onsite execution and serve as the primary point of contact during events.
- Manage contracts, timelines, and cross functional coordination to ensure events are delivered on time and on budget.
Event Communications & Marketing
- Develop and execute communications plans for events, including invitations, registration, reminders, and follow-up.
- Coordinate with Communications regarding event related content such as email campaigns, website copy, social media posts, and talking points.
Return on Involvement for Stakeholders & Attendees
- Represent FESI at events as well as steward registration processes, attendee communications, and provide on-site customer service.
- Ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and well-organized experience for speakers, guests, and partners.
- Gather feedback and analyze engagement to improve future events.
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Track attendance, engagement, and outcomes for each event.
- Prepare post event reports and recommendations.
- Identify opportunities to innovate event formats and communications strategies.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in events management, production, or convenings.
- Demonstrated experience planning complex events such as showcases, conferences, technology exhibitions, or multi-stakeholder convenings.
- Strong written communication skills, with experience creating event invitations, programming, agenda development, speaker preparation, and promotional content.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to details.
- Proficiency managing shared calendars, run-of-show documents, and vendor timelines.
- Experience managing budgets and vendor relationships.
Preferred Skills
- Background in nonprofit, foundation, or - organizations, experience in the energy sector working with investors, startups, or corporate partners preferred.
- Proficiency with event management and registration platforms (e.g., Cvent, Salesforce) for invitations, RSVPs, check-in, and attendee communications.
- Experience using email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Salesforce, or similar) to manage event invitations, reminders, and follow-up campaigns.
- Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) to track attendees, stakeholders, and post event engagement.
- Strong working knowledge of video conferencing and virtual/hybrid event platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, or platform based virtual event tools).
- Comfort collaborating in project management tools such as Asana.
- Ability to create, edit, and manage event assets using presentation and document tools (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud).

While remote eligible, the position will involve a significant presence in Washington, DC due to close collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy and other federal partners. The Event Director should expect to be in DC for meetings, briefings, convenings, and relationship building. This position should expect to have at least 30% travel to support a national event portfolio. FESI will cover reasonable, job-related travel expenses. Relocation is not required for this position.
