Director of Estimating

We’re looking for a Director of Estimating to shape how we pursue, price, and win work.
This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who understands construction beyond the drawings—someone who can translate field means, methods, sequencing, and real-world execution into smart, competitive, and buildable estimates that win.
You’ll lead estimating and preconstruction strategy from early pursuit through handoff to operations—bringing clarity to scope, confidence to pricing, and alignment across the team.

The Role
You’ll drive estimating, preconstruction, and pursuit strategy across public and private work—from opportunity evaluation and bid strategy to subcontractor engagement and seamless handoff to operations.
You’ll also play a visible role in client interviews and presentations, helping position our team to win.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and mentor the estimating team—building a culture of ownership, accuracy, and continuous improvement
- Develop sharp, field-informed estimates grounded in real execution
- Oversee subcontractor outreach, scope alignment, and bid leveling
- Partner closely with operations to validate strategy, constructability, and risk
- Lead client interviews and presentations that directly influence awards
- Tech-savvy leader who understands how to apply estimating platforms (e.g., Excel, Bluebeam, BuildingConnected), data, and emerging tools to gain a competitive edge
- Drive structured, high-quality handoffs to operations
- Evaluate opportunities and align pursuits with company goals
- Support business development and elevate prequalification efforts
- Continuously improve estimating tools, systems, and processes
What You Bring
- Proven leadership experience in estimating within a general contractor environment
- Deep, field-informed understanding of construction means, methods, and sequencing
- Ability to lead multiple pursuits in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Strong skills in scope development, bid leveling, and risk identification
- Experience with public works (DIR/prevailing wage) and private negotiated work
- Collaborative mindset with operations and project teams
- Confident communicator in both internal leadership and client-facing settings
- A builder of teams, systems, and long-term capability
- A mindset focused on winning smarter, not just bidding more
