Position Summary:
The Director of Bilingual Programming at Mastery Schools of Camden plays a crucial role in shaping and implementing our Dual Language Education program. In this position, they will ensure that language access is woven strategically into every subject, including literacy, reading intervention, math, social studies, and science. This approach aims to honor students' home languages and cultural identities while helping them navigate between languages. As part of this role responsibilities, they will provide support to school leaders and teachers through targeted professional development and coaching. The role will work closely with both the Senior Director of Multilingual Programming and the Deputy Chief Academic Officer of NJ Programming.   At Mastery, we focus on promoting academic success while recognizing students' unique backgrounds. This role is essential to creating a bilingual learning environment that values language diversity, fosters student engagement, and supports academic achievement.     DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESEssential Job Functions:
  • Drives the organizational vision of the region's approach to Bilingual Education, incorporating lessons learned from experts in the field, peer organizations, and internal pilots.
  • Uses research findings and school-based data to improve the content and sequence of the teaching/learning process and its outcomes.
  • Collaborates with members of the Network Support Team (NST) toward a unified vision of academic rigor, instructional excellence, and student success across all content areas while ensuring language access.
  • Collaborates with members of the Multilingual Team to ensure a highly engaged and high-functioning team poised to meet goals.
  • Drives network-wide strategy for intervention and progress monitoring to support all students’ success in grade level reading and writing outcomes and reduce the proportion of students identified for special education.
  • Coaches, develops, and provides professional development to school-based leaders and teachers.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of bilingual programming and recommends improvements based on campus-based and network-wide data.
  • Develop and maintain the Dual Language Education Program Plan as required by the New Jersey Department of Education.
  • Collaborates with the Talent team to recommend staffing needs and support the recruitment, selection, and placement of Dual Language teaching staff.
  • Participates in professional organizations, developments, and training programs, and disseminates learnings across the network.
  • Supports in the facilitation of the Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee and maintains open communication with families and community members.
Qualifications:
  • Proficient in oral and written English and Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Experience designing and implementing Dual Language or bilingual education programs Demonstrate a results-oriented mindset and flexibility in addressing challenges.
  • Have a deep belief in the Mastery Charter School mission and values.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to providing students with a high-quality education.
  • Experience coaching teachers or school leaders and leading professional development.
  • Values and integrates Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) into all facets of the work.
  • Familiarity with bilingual education NJDOE requirements
  • Be familiar with Common Core shifts and standards, and possess an Early Literacy content knowledge.
  • Have strong experience analyzing and interpreting instructional data.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills – exceptionally high emotional intelligence.
  • Be detail-oriented and highly organized with strong analytical writing skills.
  • Demonstrated success working with students from diverse communities. Strong collaboration, professionalism, 
    and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Thrives in a high-accountability, fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Bilingual Education, or related field required
  • New Jersey Supervisor Certificate preferred
  • New Jersey Teaching English as a Second Language Certification or Bilingual/Bicultural Education Certification required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of K-12 teaching required
  • Teaching experience in Dual Language Education preferred
  • Prior management/instructional coaching experience required
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the role as outlined above, and to work in the environmental 
    conditions required, such as traveling to network campuses, monitoring and interacting with students, in-person 
    facilitation of trainings, etc.;
  •  This role may require frequent travel between multiple locations. Reliable transportation is essential to fulfill job 
    responsibilities.
Salary and Bonus Information:
  • External candidates hired for this role are eligible for a $5,000 signing bonus as well as up to $5,000 for relocation expenses!
  • The Director of Bilingual Programming at Mastery can expect a starting salary between $105,000 to $115,000, based on education and experience, with opportunities for growth as your career progresses.
