Job Summary
As a Designer/Drafter 2, you will create and modify CAD drawings, layouts, and design models that support facility, system, and component design efforts. You'll work closely with engineering teams to ensure drawing accuracy, quality, and compliance with industry standards while contributing to projects that support one of the nation's premier scientific and national security institutions.
This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow direction in a highly regulated environment, and a team-first mindset. The position supports mission-critical national security infrastructure in a secure DOE facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and modify CAD drawings and technical layouts
- Produce detailed design documentation for components, facilities, and systems
- Apply industry codes, standards, and customer specifications
- Support engineering teams with design calculations and technical problem-solving
- Create and maintain design models under senior designer guidance
- Ensure drawing quality and configuration control
- Support fabrication, construction, operation, and maintenance requirements
- Meet project budget and schedule objectives
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3–5 years of drafting, design, or CAD-related experience
- Experience using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents
- Knowledge of drafting standards, codes, and design practices
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting engineering, construction, manufacturing, or facility projects
- Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, architectural, or industrial design environments
- Experience creating design models and assemblies
- Understanding of fabrication and construction processes
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk job sites and conduct facility walkdowns
- Ability to work in radiological facility environments (PF-4)
- Must meet clearance-related background requirements
