UCC is looking for a Day Camp Lead for the 2026 summer season!

TheDay Camp Lead’sprimary duty is to assist in the supervision and implementation of Umpqua Community College’s Discovery College for Kids and Teen Camps. The Day Camp Lead promotes positive camp implementation by serving as the first line of assistance for campers, parents, Instructors and Camp Assistants. Discovery students are in grades 1-6 and teen students are in grades 7-12. This is a summer seasonal position. The Camp Lead can expect 40-hour weeks during the camp sessions.
  • Responsible for assisting instructors, students, and Camp Assistants with the implementation of day camp activities
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with parents. Answer questions and inquiries and coordinate pick-up/drop offs each day. Manage half day camp schedule transitions
  • Gather and submit camp related paperwork from instructors, staff, and parents to the Youth Camp Coordinator
  • Provide staffing coverage for classes and activities during Camp Assistant break times
  • Provide supervision during camp swim times in the pool
  • Check-in with camp instructors and provide support and assistance as needed
  • Manage camp supplies and equipment. Assist in the inventory and return of all supplies and equipment at the end each session and camp season
  • Assist in the care, cleanliness, and security of the facilities used by campers during the sessions
  • Monitor safety of all aspects of day camp program and campers
  • Follow UCC protocol regarding handling of behaviors and special needs. Plan and lead games or other activities for camp participants on breaks between camp classes
  • Demonstrate appropriate behavior at all times. Maintain a safe environment for participants and other staff
  • Communicate problems, concerns, schedule changes, behavioral problems to the attention of the Youth Camp Coordinator or Department Operations Manager
  • Attend camp related training sessions required by Umpqua Community College
  • Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Able to communicate effectively with students, UCC staff, and parents
  • Ability to work independently and work with minimal direct supervision
  • Must be at least 16 years of age, 18 or older preferred
  • High School Diploma/GED Required, Associates Degree preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated history of responsibility, dependability and maturity
  • Two years experience working with children in a formal setting such as camp, after school, education, recreation setting
  • Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records and organize camp program activities and schedules
  • First Aid/CPR Certification strongly encouraged
