Join UCC this summer as aDay Camp Assistantand help bring energy, excitement, and fun to camp each day while supporting instructors and supervising campers. Discovery Camp serves students in grades 1–6, while Teen Camps serve students in grades 7–12. This seasonal summer position offers an engaging and rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on local youth. Camp Assistants can expect to work 20–40 hours per week during camp sessions.
  • Assist instructors during classes. This may include classroom set-up or clean-up and engaging in activities with students
  • Know the location of students during classes and activities
  • Track parent drop-off and pick-up of students during the day
  • Responsible for promoting a positive healthy environment for the students. Report all issues related to health and safety to the Youth Camp Coordinator
  • Escort youth between classes and supervises those students needing care before/after classes and during the lunch hour
  • Plan and lead games or other activities for camp participants on breaks between camp classes
  • Serve as the camp point person during open swim time in the UCC pool
  • Monitor and encourage appropriate student behavior. Follows UCC protocol regarding handling of behaviors and special needs and communicates issues to Youth Camp Coordinator
  • Demonstrate appropriate behavior at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Attend camp related training sessions required by Umpqua Community College

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Able to communicate effectively with students, UCC staff, and parents
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • One-year experience working with children in formal or informal setting
  • First Aid/CPR Certification strongly encouraged
