Title: Cost Estimator (General & MEP Specialist)
Reporting to: Office Director
Salary Range: $80,000 - $130,000
The Opportunity
On behalf of a premier, privately held construction consultancy, we are seeking a highly skilled Cost Estimator to manage independent construction cost control functions. Our client is an award-winning international firm recognized for providing expert property and construction advice across a diverse range of sectors, including healthcare, higher education, and large-scale sports arenas.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for candidates who can bridge the gap between general construction cost control and technical systems.
- For General Estimators: A strong foundation in vertical construction and quantity surveying is required.
- For MEP Specialists: Specific experience in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) estimating is highly sought after. We are specifically looking for professionals who can pull together complex MEP components and establish accurate anticipated costs for these specific portions of a project.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Estimating: Prepare detailed construction cost estimates, plans, and strategies from schematic design through final construction documents.
- MEP-Specific Oversight: Coordinate mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical aspects with other disciplines to ensure 100% scope coverage.
- Independent Cost Control: Manage change order reviews, valuations of work in progress, and bid analyses for multiple projects simultaneously.
- Value Engineering: Identify opportunities within a project to add value and conduct life-cycle costing and sustainability studies.
- Conceptual Budgeting: Develop the ability to conceptually budget and visualize projects even when 100% documentation is not yet available.
- Market Engagement: Solicit and receive MEP bids, reviewing for pricing completeness and communicating with bidders for final overviews prior to GMP inclusion.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or Civil/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
- MEP Experience: Recent specialty in electrical and mechanical cost strategies is a primary differentiator for this role.
- Sector Background: Proven experience in cost control for the commercial, institutional, or industrial sectors (specifically vertical construction).
- Process Knowledge: Familiarity with CMGC / GCCM processes and both conceptual and detailed measurement/pricing.
- Technical Skills: Experience with estimating software systems, onscreen takeoff software, and BIM.
- Professional Standards: Professional certifications (e.g., RICS, ASPE) are preferred.
Culture & Benefits
Our client offer exceptional training and extensive opportunities for professional growth. As a privately held company, they provide a competitive compensation and benefits package while involving their team in some of the most exciting construction projects globally.
