The Clark County Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Cook position. As a member of out team, you will participate in preparation of volume cooking and portioning of meals in a juvenile detention and/or residential setting. You will also assist with the inventory and the maintaining of stocks of food and supplies, including receiving, unpacking and storing of food and supplies.

- Oversees juveniles and personally participates in the preparation, cooking and portioning of meals.
- Maintains custody and discipline of juveniles assisting in the kitchen; makes required progress and behavioral reports.
- Prepares and oversees the preparation of a full range of meals, including special diets.
- Directs the portioning of food for distribution to the juvenile population.
- Ensures that food preparation equipment, cooking and serving utensils, kitchen work areas and the dining area are orderly, clean and sanitary.
- Uses, cleans, adjusts and performs minor maintenance to a variety of large institutional cooking equipment.
- Stores leftover food appropriately, inventories and maintains stocks of food and supplies; receives food and supplies, unpacks and stores in the appropriate location.
- Directs juveniles in the techniques of food preparation, cooking and portioning, safe work procedures, and the use and minor maintenance of institutional cooking equipment.
- Maintains records of food and supplies used, meals served, etc.; prepares periodic and special reports.
- Monitors and maintains the security of facilities and equipment.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- May drive a personal or County motor vehicle in order to pick up supplies.
Mobility to work in a typical institutional kitchen setting and use institutional kitchen equipment, strength to lift materials weighing up to 100 pounds, vision to read printed materials, stamina to stand and/or walk for an extended period of time, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
