We are hiring a Controls Engineer III to support advanced manufacturing and automation initiatives. In this role, you’ll lead the design, development, installation, and commissioning of PLC-based automation systems in a high-volume production environment.
This is a hands-on opportunity for a seasoned controls engineer who thrives in solving complex technical challenges and working directly with equipment and cross-functional teams.
🔍 What You’ll Do
- Lead controls engineering scope for capital and automation projects
- Design and implement PLC, HMI, and SCADA-based systems (Rockwell environment)
- Develop control architectures, functional specs, and integration strategies
- Oversee system integration, commissioning, and startup activities
- Troubleshoot complex controls, networking, and automation issues
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, IT, and operations teams
- Provide technical guidance to system integrators and machine builders
✅ Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
- 7+ years of Controls Engineering experience
- Strong experience with PLC programming (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley)
- Hands-on experience with HMI & SCADA (FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Optix)
- Knowledge of PID control systems
- Experience with AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical
- Proficiency in ladder logic, structured text, function blocks (IEC programming)
- Experience with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT)
- Familiarity with machine safety standards (ISO 13849)
- Strong troubleshooting and commissioning experience
🌍 Travel & Work Environment
- Travel up to 50% to North Carolina facilities (Hickory & Wilmington)
- Occasional vendor visits for equipment validation
- Flexibility required during installation/startup phases (weekends/extended hours possible)
