📍 Location: Charlotte, NC (Travel to Hickory & Wilmington up to 50%)

💼 Duration: 12-Month Contract

🕒 Schedule: 40 hrs/week (flexibility required during startup phases)


🚀 About the Role

We are hiring a Controls Engineer III to support advanced manufacturing and automation initiatives. In this role, you’ll lead the design, development, installation, and commissioning of PLC-based automation systems in a high-volume production environment.

This is a hands-on opportunity for a seasoned controls engineer who thrives in solving complex technical challenges and working directly with equipment and cross-functional teams.


🔍 What You’ll Do

  • Lead controls engineering scope for capital and automation projects
  • Design and implement PLC, HMI, and SCADA-based systems (Rockwell environment)
  • Develop control architectures, functional specs, and integration strategies
  • Oversee system integration, commissioning, and startup activities
  • Troubleshoot complex controls, networking, and automation issues
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, IT, and operations teams
  • Provide technical guidance to system integrators and machine builders


✅ Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
  • 7+ years of Controls Engineering experience
  • Strong experience with PLC programming (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley)
  • Hands-on experience with HMI & SCADA (FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Optix)
  • Knowledge of PID control systems
  • Experience with AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical
  • Proficiency in ladder logic, structured text, function blocks (IEC programming)
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT)
  • Familiarity with machine safety standards (ISO 13849)
  • Strong troubleshooting and commissioning experience


🌍 Travel & Work Environment

  • Travel up to 50% to North Carolina facilities (Hickory & Wilmington)
  • Occasional vendor visits for equipment validation
  • Flexibility required during installation/startup phases (weekends/extended hours possible)
