Job Title: Construction Manager – Calcite Plant Rebuild

Location: Rogers City, Michigan

Project Duration: May 2026 – May 2028

Project Overview

The Calcite Plant Rebuild is a large-scale capital project focused on modernizing and upgrading an aging industrial facility to improve operational efficiency, safety, and long-term reliability. The project includes:

  • A site-wide electrical upgrade from the 13.8 kV utility feed through downstream distribution systems
  • Replacement and refurbishment of major material handling systems (E&F gallery, P2/P3 conveyors, H-Product conveyors, P6A and P7A conveyors)
  • Design and construction of a new mill building to support crushing and screening operations

The project will be executed on an aggressive schedule while maintaining ongoing plant operations, with major work aligned to seasonal outage windows.

Position Summary

The Construction Manager will serve as the on-site leader responsible for coordinating construction and commissioning activities across multiple contractors and disciplines. This role is critical to ensuring safe execution, schedule adherence, quality installation, and effective communication among all stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

  • Serve as the on-site safety champion, promoting a strong safety culture aligned with company standards and MSHA requirements
  • Enforce compliance with the Contractor Safety Manual and all site-specific safety procedures
  • Stop unsafe work practices and lead incident prevention efforts
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and stand-downs
  • Coordinate closely with site safety personnel and report all safety concerns to leadership

Construction Coordination & Oversight

  • Coordinate and supervise all on-site contractors involved in construction and commissioning
  • Act as the primary point of contact for contractors mobilizing to site
  • Ensure all contractor personnel meet certification, training, and PPE requirements
  • Facilitate site safety orientations and onboarding

Material & Equipment Management

  • Coordinate delivery, inspection, and offloading of all equipment and materials
  • Develop and execute logistics plans for equipment handling (cranes, forklifts, laydown areas, storage requirements)
  • Maintain accurate inventory and laydown area tracking in coordination with project stakeholders

Progress Monitoring & Reporting

  • Prepare and submit daily progress reports to Project Managers and Site Operations leadership
  • Track milestones, identify risks, and escalate delays or resource constraints
  • Address workmanship and performance issues in collaboration with contractors

Quality Assurance & Commissioning Readiness

  • Inspect installations to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and company standards
  • Verify completion of pre-commissioning checklists in coordination with engineering teams
  • Support transition from construction to commissioning, including coordination of overlapping activities

Stakeholder Communication

  • Maintain regular communication with key stakeholders, including:
  • Project Managers (daily updates and issue escalation)
  • Site Operations and Maintenance teams (ongoing coordination)
  • EPC Construction Manager (daily alignment on execution)
  • Area Safety Manager (safety performance and concerns)
  • Route technical and commercial contractor inquiries through appropriate channels

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 10+ years of construction management experience in heavy industrial, mining, or material handling environments
  • Proven experience managing large-scale capital projects ($50M+) with multiple contractors
  • Experience working in operating facilities with shutdown/outage coordination

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of industrial construction practices, including structural, mechanical, and electrical systems
  • Experience with conveyor systems, crushing/screening equipment, and bulk material handling (preferred)
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and turnover procedures

Safety & Compliance

  • Strong understanding of MSHA regulations and safety standards
  • MSHA Part 46 training (required prior to site access)
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and incident prevention

Leadership & Communication

  • Excellent leadership, coordination, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to manage multiple contractors and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Other Requirements

  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Willingness to work on-site full-time for the duration of the project
  • Ability to work extended hours, including during outage periods and critical milestones

Working Conditions

  • Active construction and mining environment with exposure to heavy equipment and industrial conditions
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) required at all times on-site
  • Work aligned with seasonal outages and weather-dependent schedules
