Job Description

The Technician performs a variety of hands-on duties at a landfill site, including installing, inspecting, rebuilding, troubleshooting, and repairing pumps and related equipment used in daily operations. This role also handles general maintenance tasks for the pumps and supports other field activities as needed across the site.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, rebuild, troubleshoot, and repair pumps and other equipment used in daily landfill operations.
• Perform general maintenance on pumps and associated systems to ensure reliable and safe operation.
• Use hand tools and basic mechanical skills to complete installation, repair, and service tasks.
• Assist with operating heavy equipment such as skid steers, bobcats, and vac trucks as needed.
• Support construction-related tasks on site, including basic carpentry, minor repairs, and general labor duties.
• Perform outdoor laborer activities such as landscaping, site cleanup, and other physical tasks in all weather conditions.
• Follow work assignments throughout the day, moving from one task to another based on operational needs.
• Work safely around landfill infrastructure and equipment, following all safety procedures and guidelines.
• Collaborate with a small field crew to complete daily work, communicate progress, and address any equipment issues.
• Be available for overtime, including early starts, late days, and occasional Saturday work as required.
• Maintain a driving record that meets company standards to allow future use of company vehicles and travel to regional sites.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of experience working on a construction job site.
• At least 1 year of general labor experience in a physically demanding role.
• Experience using hand tools for basic installation, repair, or maintenance tasks.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot and service equipment.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Comfort working in a landfill environment that is dirty and has strong odors.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime, including early starts, late days, and possible Saturdays.
• Ability to meet motor vehicle record (MVR) requirements for future operation of company trucks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with heavy equipment such as skid steers and bobcats is a plus.
• Experience operating a vac truck is highly preferred.
• Experience in carpentry, deck building, or similar construction trades is beneficial.
• Experience in landscaping or other outdoor labor roles is an advantage.
• Prior experience with installation or troubleshooting of mechanical systems is a strong plus.

Work Environment

This role is based at a landfill site in Murfreesboro, TN, focused on maintaining the leachate system and related equipment. Although the work does not involve direct handling of garbage, the environment is dirty and carries strong odors, and candidates must be comfortable working in these conditions every day. Work is performed entirely outdoors in the elements, including hot, cold, wet, and windy weather. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with frequent opportunities for overtime, including early start times, late days, and occasional Saturdays. The team is small, and the atmosphere is relaxed, with work flowing from one duty to another and daily tasks changing frequently. Equipment on site includes pumps, hand tools, vac trucks, and heavy equipment such as skid steers and bobcats, which technicians may assist with operating. Work attire should be suitable for outdoor, dirty, and physically demanding conditions.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Murfreesboro, TN.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Murfreesboro,TN.
