CNC Lathe Machinist

The Machinist will be tasked to safely and efficiently set up and operate a CNC Lathe. Machines include Okuma CNC Lathes, Mazak CNC Lathes. This role requires onsite presence for day shift work. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a supervisor or experienced machinist, produce quality parts on CNC machines (including lathes and milling machines) in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Operate CNC machines, perform setup changes, and conduct first article inspections during production runs.
  • Load parts using overhead lifting equipment; prove programs; operate machine controls; set offsets; perform simple program edits; deburr parts; and inspect finished parts to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Identify potential issues before production runs. Start and monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions and adjust machine controls or programs as required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, job orders, and precision measuring instruments to determine dimensions, tolerances, and tooling requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of tooling instructions, including fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and cutting tools.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.
  • Comply with all NOV company policies, including Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements.

Facility-Specific Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize machining processes and improve efficiency.
  • Identify and correctly utilize tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, and inserts.
  • Read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments, including profilometers, dial indicators, depth gauges, OD/ID micrometers, and groove micrometers.
  • Machine parts to tight tolerances, often within ±0.0005 inches.
  • Follow dispatch reports to ensure jobs are completed in the correct sequence.
  • Ensure machined products meet specifications before moving to the next operation.
  • Produce high-quality parts that meet all required specifications.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in good condition.
  • Manage personal workflow to meet production requirements.
  • Meet safety, quality, delivery, and productivity standards.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience as a Lathe Machinist in a manufacturing environment
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check
  • Proficient in reading and basic math, and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
  • Strong understanding of machining principles and practices, including CNC programming and setup
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
  • Can demonstrate good work ethic
  • Ability to work well with the team
  • Experience with multi-axis CNC lathes, preferred
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and practices; prefered

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit or stand, bend, and reach.
  • Regularly required to operate a computer and other office machinery using finger dexterity for typing and writing.

  • Regularly required to perform light physical effort to lift or move lightweight materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Regularly required to view a computer screen.
