Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Retail Industry | Multi-Location Operations
Position Overview
We are conducting a search for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on behalf of our client, a growing multi-location retail business. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for driving both financial performance and operational effectiveness across the organization.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, “operator-style” CFO who thrives in dynamic environments and is comfortable working closely with field operations, distribution, and executive leadership. This role requires a balance of strategic thinking and tactical execution, with a strong focus on building scalable infrastructure and improving performance across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all financial functions, including accounting, FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning
- Provide actionable insights and partner with operations to drive margin improvement and cost control
- Oversee accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Develop and implement KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics across multiple locations
- Manage cash flow, liquidity, and banking relationships, including ownership of rolling forecasts
- Drive financial and operational process improvements, including ERP implementations and system enhancements
- Evaluate growth initiatives, including capital investments and potential M&A activity
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing finance and accounting team
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership team
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including CFO or #1 finance leader role
- Experience within companies ranging approximately $75M–$300M in revenue
- Proven success in multi-location, operationally complex environments (retail strongly preferred)
- Strong experience in inventory-heavy and/or warehouse/distribution operations
- Demonstrated leadership managing and developing finance teams (6+ direct/indirect reports)
- Hands-on experience leading ERP implementations or major system upgrades
- Advanced financial modeling, forecasting, and KPI development skills
Preferred Experience
- Retail, automotive, or service-based industries
- Experience in decentralized or multi-unit business models
- M&A experience, particularly buy-side integration
- Exposure to private equity or advisory board environments
- Track record of standardizing processes across multiple locations
