Carrier Sales Representative
Location: Columbia, SC (In-Office)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Position Overview
The Carrier Sales Representative serves as a central point of contact for carrier partners and plays a critical role in supporting day-to-day freight operations. This position is responsible for sourcing capacity, negotiating rates, managing carrier relationships, and ensuring on-time pickup and delivery of customer shipments. The ideal candidate is energetic, sales-driven, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and secure carrier capacity through cold calling and existing carrier relationships
- Negotiate competitive rates on spot and contract freight
- Build, maintain, and grow trusted relationships with carrier partners
- Manage end-to-end load execution, including tracking shipments and resolving in-transit issues
- Coordinate daily carrier activity with internal customer and operations teams
- Prepare and issue carrier rate confirmations efficiently
- Collect and verify required carrier and shipment information (dispatch details, driver info, equipment details, ETA, tracking, etc.)
- Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) and logistics software to manage shipments and carrier data
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in company operating systems
- Analyze performance metrics such as on-time pickup and delivery
- Prepare lane bids and assist with contract or dedicated freight opportunities as requested
- Develop contingency plans and assist in resolving service disruptions
- Ensure compliance with logistics regulations, safety standards, and company procedures
- Provide backup support to team members and perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
- 1–2 years of freight brokerage or carrier sales experience preferred
- Experience in logistics sales or transportation operations
- Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills
- High energy, goal-oriented, and self-motivated with a sales mindset
- Team-oriented with a strong sense of accountability
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with McLeod software preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic computer applications
