Business Development Representative / Manager – Technical Sales (Materials Science)
Compensation: $120,000 – $140,000 base + commission
Job Type: Direct Hire (Remote with travel)
Travel: Up to 50% (domestic & international)
Location: Flexible (Norton, MA preferred but not required)

Position Overview
We are seeking a technical sales professional to drive growth within the materials science and advanced manufacturing space, with a strong focus on aerospace and defense applications.
This role blends business development, account management, and technical sales, ideal for a mid-level candidate (5–15 years of experience) with a strong technical foundation who is either already in sales or looking to transition from engineering, applications, or manufacturing into a customer-facing commercial role.
The ideal candidate brings technical credibility (metals, composites, casting, or advanced manufacturing) along with the ability to build relationships, influence customers, and drive revenue growth.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategies to generate leads and drive revenue growth
- Build and maintain strong relationships with aerospace, defense, and industrial customers
- Identify, prospect, and develop new business opportunities and accounts
- Manage and grow existing key accounts
- Engage customers to understand technical requirements and recommend solutions
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and quality teams to deliver customer solutions
- Support the full sales cycle including presentations, technical discussions, proposals, and closing deals
- Track opportunities, forecasts, and activity within CRM systems
- Represent the company at trade shows, customer visits, and industry events
- Support long-term strategic planning including forecasting and growth initiatives
Key Duties
- Aggressively prospect and develop new accounts through outreach and networking
- Generate quotations, overcome objections, and close new business opportunities
- Deliver technical presentations (virtual and onsite) to customers
- Maintain consistent communication with customers to ensure satisfaction and growth
- Coordinate cross-functionally to ensure on-time delivery and successful execution
- Support internal teams and maintain strong communication across departments
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards, processes, and safety protocols
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Business, or related field
- 3–15+ years of experience in:
- Technical sales, business development, or account management
- OR engineering, manufacturing, or applications roles with customer exposure
- Experience in Aerospace, Defense, or Military-related industries
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Metals, composites, casting, or manufacturing processes
- Proven ability or strong interest in customer-facing sales roles
Preferred Background
- Experience selling or supporting:
- Components, materials, or engineered products
- Background in:
- Sales engineering, applications engineering, or inside sales
- Experience selling into:
- Aerospace, defense, optical communications, or semiconductor markets
- Ability to influence, negotiate, and close deals
