Business Development Representative / Manager – Technical Sales (Materials Science)

Compensation: $120,000 – $140,000 base + commission

Job Type: Direct Hire (Remote with travel)

Travel: Up to 50% (domestic & international)

Location: Flexible (Norton, MA preferred but not required)

Industry Focus: Aerospace & Defense (Primary), Metals & Advanced Materials

Position Overview

We are seeking a technical sales professional to drive growth within the materials science and advanced manufacturing space, with a strong focus on aerospace and defense applications.

This role blends business development, account management, and technical sales, ideal for a mid-level candidate (5–15 years of experience) with a strong technical foundation who is either already in sales or looking to transition from engineering, applications, or manufacturing into a customer-facing commercial role.


The ideal candidate brings technical credibility (metals, composites, casting, or advanced manufacturing) along with the ability to build relationships, influence customers, and drive revenue growth.


Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategies to generate leads and drive revenue growth
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with aerospace, defense, and industrial customers
  • Identify, prospect, and develop new business opportunities and accounts
  • Manage and grow existing key accounts
  • Engage customers to understand technical requirements and recommend solutions
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and quality teams to deliver customer solutions
  • Support the full sales cycle including presentations, technical discussions, proposals, and closing deals
  • Track opportunities, forecasts, and activity within CRM systems
  • Represent the company at trade shows, customer visits, and industry events
  • Support long-term strategic planning including forecasting and growth initiatives


Key Duties

  • Aggressively prospect and develop new accounts through outreach and networking
  • Generate quotations, overcome objections, and close new business opportunities
  • Deliver technical presentations (virtual and onsite) to customers
  • Maintain consistent communication with customers to ensure satisfaction and growth
  • Coordinate cross-functionally to ensure on-time delivery and successful execution
  • Support internal teams and maintain strong communication across departments
  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards, processes, and safety protocols


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Business, or related field
  • 3–15+ years of experience in:
  • Technical sales, business development, or account management
  • OR engineering, manufacturing, or applications roles with customer exposure
  • Experience in Aerospace, Defense, or Military-related industries
  • Strong technical knowledge of:
  • Metals, composites, casting, or manufacturing processes
  • Proven ability or strong interest in customer-facing sales roles


Preferred Background

  • Experience selling or supporting:
  • Components, materials, or engineered products
  • Background in:
  • Sales engineering, applications engineering, or inside sales
  • Experience selling into:
  • Aerospace, defense, optical communications, or semiconductor markets
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and close deals
