Job Description

The Building Maintenance Technician provides routine and specialized repair and maintenance support for hospital buildings, equipment, and properties using a computerized maintenance management system. This role diagnoses and corrects issues across mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and control systems to help ensure a safe, reliable, and efficient healthcare environment. The technician also offers technical support and guidance to facility staff and actively participates in hospital and departmental safety, education, and training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized maintenance and repairs on hospital buildings, equipment, and properties using a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems, including pumps, belt drives, gear reduction drives, piping, valves, and related components.
  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing used for water distribution and wastewater disposal.
  • Install, test, maintain, and diagnose electrical and electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, fixtures, components, and systems.
  • Service and maintain control systems, including sensors, limit switches, solenoids, motors, and related control components.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, air handlers, cooling towers, and building automation systems to optimize performance and reliability.
  • Carry out general facility and building maintenance tasks, including lighting, carpentry, and other facilities maintenance work as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and pneumatic systems in a timely and safe manner.
  • Provide technical support and general guidance to facility staff on the repair, operation, and proper use of facility equipment, components, and utilities.
  • Document work performed, findings, and repairs accurately within the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Participate in hospital and departmental safety programs, ensuring compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Attend educational opportunities and related training to maintain and improve technical skills and knowledge.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team to prioritize and complete maintenance tasks.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and emergencies, including during nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in using computerized systems, including a computerized maintenance management system, for all aspects of job performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and utility systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical systems, including installation, testing, maintenance, and diagnosis of wiring, equipment, fixtures, and components.
  • Hands-on experience with plumbing systems, including installation, repair, and maintenance of pipes, fixtures, and wastewater systems.
  • Experience with HVAC systems, including service, maintenance, and troubleshooting of air handlers, cooling towers, and related equipment.
  • Ability to perform general facility and building maintenance, including lighting, carpentry, and general repairs.
  • Effective written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively without direct supervision and collaborate productively within a team.
  • Willingness and ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and significant overtime as needed.
  • Capability to work safely in a hospital environment, following established safety protocols and procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with building automation systems and controls, including sensors, limit switches, solenoids, and motors.
  • Background in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, or general maintenance in a healthcare or similar complex environment.
  • Experience with pneumatics and mechanical systems such as pumps, belt drives, and gear reduction drives.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices for HVAC and facility equipment.
  • Familiarity with maintenance repair processes and service-oriented work in a facilities setting.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and support to non-technical staff regarding equipment operation and basic troubleshooting.

Work Environment

This role is based inside a hospital setting, working directly within patient care and support areas to maintain critical building systems and equipment. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., for approximately 40 hours per week, with the expectation of working weekends, holidays, and substantial overtime as operational needs arise. You will work with a range of building systems and technologies, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, pneumatic, and building automation systems, as well as a computerized maintenance management system for tracking and documenting work. The environment requires consistent attention to safety, adherence to hospital protocols, and the ability to respond quickly to maintenance needs in an active healthcare facility.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $33.00/hr.
