Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Part-Time Bookkeeper / Accountant to manage financial records, ensure accuracy in accounting, support budgeting, and assist in financial reporting. The ideal candidate will be proactive, understand legal industry financial practices where relevant, and be comfortable working in a small to mid-sized law-firm environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

●     Maintain accurate general ledger entries, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll entries.

●     Process vendor invoices, employee expenses, and ensure timely payments.

●     Reconcile bank statements and trust accounts (if applicable) on a regular basis.

●     Assist with billing and invoicing clients; monitor aging of receivables and follow up as needed.

●     Prepare monthly/quarterly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) for review by firm management.

●     Support budget preparation and financial forecasting.

●     Ensure compliance with relevant tax, legal, and accounting standards; assist with preparation of materials for tax filings and audits.

●     Implement, maintain, and/or improve internal financial controls and bookkeeping systems.

●     Liaise with external accountants, payroll providers, and possibly with legal compliance or trust accounting requirements.

●     Maintain confidentiality of all financial, personnel, and client information.

 


Required Qualifications

●     Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

●     Proven bookkeeping / accounting experience (3+ years preferred), ideally in a law firm or professional services environment.

●     Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and practices.

●     Proficiency with accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Xero, or similar), Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables).

●     Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

●     Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

●     Excellent organizational and communication skills.


Desired Skills / Plus

●     Experience with legal / trust accounting or handling matters unique to law firms.

●     Familiarity with billing in law firms (timekeeping & invoicing software).

●     Experience preparing for audits.

●     Good judgment and integrity; ability to handle sensitive / confidential info.

●     Initiative: ability to identify inefficiencies and suggest improvements.


Time Commitment

●     Part-time: approximately 10-20 hours per week; days/times flexible but must align with business needs.

●     Some remote work possible if local and for certain tasks; but must be able to attend in-office for key financial processes, meetings, reconciliations, etc.


Compensation

●     $25-$35/hr dependent on experience.

●     Flexible schedule, etc.) as determined by firm policy.
