Oxford Preparatory Academy Board of Directors is conducting a search to fill an open Board Member position. Oxford Preparatory Academy (OPA) is a tuition-free, public charter school organization, serving grades TK-8 at two elementary schools and one middle school in south Orange County. Board Members are actively involved in organizational governance and should reserve approximately 10-15 hours per month for operational business and to review documentation and information for Board Meetings. Board Members are expected to attend one regularly scheduled evening Board Meeting each month and Special Board Meetings as needed throughout the year. Terms are two years.

Timeline

March 23-April 30, 2026: Application window open

May (Date TBD): Screening Interviews (1st Session) with a selection committee consisting of 2 Board Members and the Executive Director 

June 11: Finalists invited to the final interview round and selection during the regular Board of Directors meeting.

July (Date TBD): The selected Board Member is sworn in and begins serving the term of July 2026-June 2028.


Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Promote and guide the mission and vision of the school.
  • Hires and evaluates the Executive Director.
  • Receives reports directly from the Executive Director of the total operation of the school including, but not limited to, budget, curriculum, activities, student achievement data, evaluation of Principals (Chancellors), and renewal of staff contracts.
  • Ratifies contracts of employees after recommendation by the Executive Director.
  • Acts as a fiscal agent, which includes the receipt of funds for operations.
  • Develops, reviews, or revises performance measures, including school goals.
  • Review the school master calendar and schedule of Board meetings.
  • Develops Board of Directors policies and procedures.
  • Participates in dispute resolution when necessary.
  • Ratifies charter amendments and material revisions.
  • Approves annual fiscal audit and performance report.
  • Holds Expulsion hearings or makes the final decision regarding student expulsion after recommendation by an Administrative Panel.
  • Ratifies personnel discipline decisions, as needed.
  • Ratifies compensation plans and stipend schedules.
