Job Title: Benefits Specialist

Location: Chicago, IL – South / Hyde Park

Compensation: $30 to $35 / hour

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 35-hour work week, Fully onsite for the first 30 days; hybrid schedule (4 days onsite, 1 remote) thereafter

Benefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

Job Description:

The Benefits Specialist will support the HR function by managing the day-to-day administration of employee benefits programs. This individual will serve as a key resource for employees, ensuring a smooth benefits experience while maintaining compliance and accuracy across all programs. This role works closely with internal HR leadership and external vendors.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for employee benefits inquiries, providing guidance and resolving issues in a timely manner
  • Manage benefits enrollments, updates, and terminations within HRIS and vendor systems
  • Oversee administration of programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), FMLA, disability, and workers’ compensation
  • Partner with third-party vendors and brokers to address claims, escalations, and program improvements
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with benefits data and regulations
  • Support open enrollment planning, employee communications, and onboarding sessions related to benefits
  • Track and manage leave programs, including FMLA and ADA accommodations
  • Review and reconcile vendor invoices and ensure timely processing
  • Analyze benefits data and trends to support reporting and decision-making
  • Assist in developing and documenting processes to improve efficiency within benefits administration


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in benefits administration or a related HR function
  • Strong experience with HRIS platforms; ADP Workforce Now preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis
  • Knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and leave management processes
  • Familiarity with 401(k) administration and workers’ compensation
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
