Bench Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on bench-level repair and maintenance of aircraft components and related electronic systems. You will work at a dedicated station, receiving parts that have been removed from aircraft and performing detailed inspection, troubleshooting, and repair down to the component level. The position is ideal for someone with a strong analog electronics experience who enjoys hands-on work, precise diagnostics, and restoring complex instruments to optimal performance.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair aircraft components and related electronic assemblies at the bench, rather than on the aircraft itself.
• Diagnose issues at the component level on subassemblies, such as printed circuit boards, using schematics and inspection tools.
• Perform hands-on repair work including sanding, soldering, and reworking components on electric motors, electric control panels, power distribution blocks, and relay boards.
• Use a variety of test and inspection instruments, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and voltmeters, to verify performance and identify faults.
• Work on a range of instruments including, but not limited to, altimeters, pressure instruments, gyroscopes, indicators, fuel flow transmitters, and gauges, as experience allows.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation to guide repair and assembly activities.
• Conduct detailed visual and functional inspections to ensure components meet quality and safety standards before release.
• Assemble, reassemble, and test analog and analog/digital components and subassemblies after repair.
• Collaborate with a close-knit team of technicians and inspectors to share knowledge, solve complex issues, and support continuous improvement.
• Work independently at a bench while communicating effectively with supervisors and team members on repair status and technical issues.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following established procedures and best practices for electronics handling and repair.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of experience working on electronics at the component level, including analog systems, vacuum tubes, or similar technologies.
• Proven experience with component-level repair on subassemblies, such as replacing components on printed circuit boards.
• Strong analog electronics experience, ideally with the ability to diagnose and repair down to individual components.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting, sanding, soldering, and repairing electric motors, electric control panels, power distribution blocks, and relay boards.
• Proficiency using inspection and test instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and voltmeters.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
• Confidence working in a bench-level environment with standard electronic repair tools and equipment.
• Solid troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective repairs.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience repairing or calibrating instruments such as gyroscopes, altimeters, indicators, fuel flow transmitters, and gauges.
• Familiarity with both analog and analog/digital electronic systems in a repair or maintenance setting.
• Experience in an avionics, aerospace, or military electronics maintenance environment.
• Comfort working in a structured, quality-focused repair operation with established procedures.
• Willingness to learn new instruments and technologies with support and coaching from experienced team members.

Work Environment

You will work full-time in a bench-level repair environment within an instrument shop that is part of a team of about 30 people, with roughly 20–25 working directly in the instrument shop. The setting is hands-on and tool-driven, where you use equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, voltmeters, and standard electronic repair tools at your station. Work focuses on components that arrive from aircraft, so all tasks take place at the bench rather than on the aircraft itself. The culture is collaborative and family-oriented, with the whole team helping one another and leadership providing guidance and coaching to support skill development. The environment is structured yet supportive, emphasizing quality, precision, and safety in all repair activities, while allowing technicians to work independently at their stations and contribute to a cohesive, team-based operation.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn, CA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
