Job Title: Batch Mixer

Job Description

The Batch Mixer prepares and blends batches of adhesives, sealants, and coatings by following detailed recipes and production procedures. This role involves weighing and handling raw materials, operating mixing and packaging equipment, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. The Batch Mixer works closely with a lead or experienced operator to learn processes, ensure product quality, and support efficient production runs.

Responsibilities

  • Blend batches of adhesives, sealants, and coatings by following recipe guides and production cookbooks with a high level of accuracy.
  • Weigh raw ingredients and materials precisely to meet specified formulas and quality standards.
  • Work with dry chemical ingredients in a safe manner while using appropriate personal protective equipment, including a respirator.
  • Set up machinery, hoses, tankers, and related equipment prior to production runs.
  • Stage and gather raw materials from storage rooms and designated areas in preparation for production.
  • Use vacuums and other equipment to move and stage products and raw materials as needed.
  • Perform routine inspections on batches, equipment, and work areas to verify proper operation and product quality.
  • Assist with basic maintenance and upkeep of machinery and products to support reliable operation.
  • Keep workstations, machinery, and surrounding areas clean and free of debris by sweeping and performing regular housekeeping tasks.
  • Participate in packaging, bottling, and line work as part of the overall production process.
  • Manually load materials and perform other physical labor tasks, including heavy lifting, as required.
  • Operate a sit-down forklift to move materials and finished products safely around the facility.
  • Collaborate with and learn from the lead or high ranking operator to understand production processes, safety practices, and quality expectations.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of steel-toe footwear and other required protective equipment.
  • Support production schedules by working occasional overtime and occasional Saturdays when needed.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience in mixing, blending, or similar batch-making roles in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with batch mixing, batch making, and batch testing processes.
  • Experience in packaging, bottling, and production line work.
  • Proficiency in weighing and mixing materials accurately according to recipes or formulas.
  • Ability to perform manual loading and physical labor, including heavy lifting.
  • Experience operating a sit-down forklift in a production or warehouse setting.
  • Comfort working with dry chemicals while following safety procedures and using a respirator.
  • Ability to set up and work with mixing machinery, hoses, tankers, and related equipment.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to wear and use required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Willingness to work 1st shift (approximately 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) with a few hours of overtime and occasional Saturdays as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment producing adhesives, sealants, coatings, or similar products.
  • Familiarity with following detailed recipe guides and production cookbooks.
  • Comfort working around conveyors and various types of production machinery.
  • Ability to perform basic equipment inspections and assist with routine maintenance tasks.
  • Strong teamwork skills and willingness to collaborate with lead and high ranking operators.
  • Interest in learning multiple operator roles and developing into higher-skilled positions over time.

Work Environment

The role is based in a smaller manufacturing facility that is actively focused on continuous improvement, with a clean warehouse and production floor designed for efficient product flow. The batch mixing area includes separate rooms with tankers and blending equipment dedicated to mixing operations. Team members work around machinery and conveyors and collaborate across different departments throughout the facility. The position is on 1st shift, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a few hours of overtime and occasional, non-mandatory Saturday work. The work is physically demanding, involving heavy lifting, manual loading, and frequent movement of materials. Required attire includes steel-toe footwear and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, including a respirator when working with dry chemicals. New employees receive hands-on training and guidance from experienced operators to learn equipment, processes, and safety practices.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alsip, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
