BAS Project Engineer
Location: Richmond, VA
Salary: $115,000–$130,000 + Bonus

Position Summary
The BAS Project Engineer is responsible for the design, programming, commissioning, and delivery of Building Automation System (BAS) projects for commercial, healthcare, higher education, industrial, and mission-critical facilities. The ideal candidate has strong experience with HVAC controls, DDC systems, and building automation platforms, with hands-on knowledge of Distech Controls and Niagara 4 preferred.
Typical BAS Project Engineer responsibilities include designing and programming DDC/BAS systems, developing control sequences and project documentation, reviewing submittals, supporting commissioning, troubleshooting system issues, and coordinating with customers, subcontractors, and project managers.
Responsibilities
- Design and engineer BAS/DDC control systems for HVAC applications.
- Develop control sequences, points lists, network architecture, and graphics.
- Program and integrate controllers using Niagara 4 and Distech Controls platforms.
- Create submittal packages, shop drawings, and as-built documentation.
- Review equipment submittals and verify control requirements.
- Perform system startup, commissioning, and functional testing.
- Troubleshoot field devices, networks, controllers, and integrations.
- Support project managers with scheduling, budgeting, and technical execution.
- Interface with owners, consulting engineers, contractors, and commissioning agents.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of BAS/DDC engineering, programming, or project engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and controls.
- Experience with:
- Distech Controls
- Tridium Niagara 4
- BACnet, Modbus, and IP-based control networks
- Experience with AutoCAD and control system documentation.
- Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Strong customer-facing communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Niagara 4 Certification.
- Distech EC-Net certification.

- Schneider Electric
- Experience in data centers, healthcare, or mission-critical facilities.
- Engineering degree or equivalent controls experience.
