Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office is seeking a dedicated, and detail-oriented Auto Inventory Deputy Specialist I to join our team.

The Auto Inventory Deputy Specialist I is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate inventory levels to support efficient business operations. This role will work within the Automobile division to support compliance and policies that will ensure inventory control. This is an in-person position. Remote work options are not available, unless authorized to process backlog.

The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office is essential for ensuring the proper administration of tax laws and providing vital services to the community. The office plays a key role in local government, handling various financial and administrative tasks, including:

• Property Tax Collection: Assess and collect property taxes for all eligible commercial and residential property owners and entities. Calculate property taxes based on appraised values and ensure collection and distribution to the appropriate entities.
• Motor Vehicle Services: Manage commercial and residential vehicle registration, issue license plates, and handle vehicle title transfers, including the collection of associated fees.
• Voter Registration: Oversee voter registration within the county, issue voter registration certificates, and maintain an accurate voter registration roll.
• Additional Revenue Collection: Collecting certain fees, fines, and revenues related to permits or state mandates, depending on the county’s needs.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supports the Automobile Special Services Division, Director of Compliance, and Branch Locations with inventory needs.
  • Allocate inventory to automobile divisions.
  • Allocate inventory to dealers.
  • Maintain records of weekly inventory and delete reports, and review for accuracy.
  • Complete inventory on hand frequently to send to the dealers.
  • Make visits to branches, dealers/subcontractors to audit inventory, as needed.
  • Periodically spot check to ensure inventory is not outstanding.
  • Work with the Distribution Center to ensure TXDMV inventory invoices are accurate.
  • Work with the Director of Compliance to ensure inventory at all branches is accurate.
  • Maintain records of RTS equipment, including CPUs and printers.
  • Notify the appropriate department when deletes or voids are missing.
  • Generate forms of correspondence, type from handwritten drafts, proofread, edit, file, and respond to e-mails.
  • Prepare throughout the year for the annual TXDMV inventory audit of RTS equipment and inventory.
  • Maintain filing system and detailed records.
  • Communicate with the TXDMV when invoices are incorrect.
  • Other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution within the U.S.
• Minimum of one (1) year of customer service experience.
• Must be able to pass state-required RTS training.
• Must demonstrate the ability to perform duties with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude and provide excellent customer service.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Must be able to travel between branches, dealers and grocery stores, using personal or on rare occasion county vehicles as needed. Mileage will be reimbursed for any business-related travel expenses in non-county-owned vehicles.
• Must pass a Motor Vehicle Record, criminal background and substance abuse screening.
• Ability to lift moderate weights when handling inventory.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Personal Computer (PC) experience.
• Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook (Intermediate skills).
• Ability to take direction and supervision.
• Excellent reading comprehension and verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent telephone skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to pay attention to details.
• Customer service oriented.
• Must have a professional attitude and appearance and the ability to communicate with all levels of management.
• Must be able to work without constant supervision and function effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Must have the ability to work multiple concurrent assignments.
• Must be able to multi-task, work extended hours and/or flex between early and late schedules as required and without prior notification.

Education & Experience:
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
  • Prior experience with vehicle registration, titling, or licensing services.
Work Environment:
• Work is performed primarily in an office setting subject to frequent interruptions with extensive work at a computer workstation and site visits to various Tax Offices, Harris County and community facilities, both outdoors and indoors.
• Remote work options are not available, unless authorized to process backlog.
• Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours, as needed.
• May require attendance at outside training seminars and/or conferences.

Physical Demands:
• At times, minor physical effort required, which may involve long periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs. or similar activities (e.g., filing, delivering, sorting).
• A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on a routine basis.
• Regular application of basic skills (calculator, keyboard, hand tools, eye/hand coordination).

Working Hours:
• Monday-Friday 7:45 am - 4:45 pm; subject to overtime and weekends

Primary Working Location:

• Must be willing to travel to different sites.
