Position Overview
We’re looking for an Associate Buyer to join our Supply Chain team. This is an early-career role for someone with a retail, merchandising, or purchasing background who wants to learn the buying cycle from the ground up. You’ll support our purchasing operations—helping place and track purchase orders, keeping vendors on timeline, and turning order and inventory data into clean, usable information that drives sound buying decisions.
This is a hands-on, learn-by-doing role with a clear path toward a full Buyer position as you grow. If you’re sharp with Excel, think critically, and like keeping a lot of moving pieces on schedule, we want to hear from you.
What You’ll Do
Purchasing & Purchase Order Support
- Help create, enter, and track purchase orders, confirming quantities, pricing, and delivery dates against agreed terms
- Monitor open purchase orders and follow up on order status, shipment timing, and discrepancies
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and update systems as orders move through the buying cycle
- Support reconciliation of purchase orders, invoices, and receipts to keep records clean and accurate
Vendor Coordination & Timelines
- Communicate with vendors on order confirmations, ship dates, and routine follow-ups
- Track lead times and flag delays or risks to the buying team before they affect inventory
- Help hold vendors accountable to delivery timelines and order terms, escalating issues as needed
- Build professional, dependable working relationships with supplier contacts
Data, Reporting & Analysis
- Build and maintain spreadsheets in Excel—including VLOOKUP and XLOOKUP—to organize purchasing and inventory data
- Pull and clean order, inventory, and vendor data so the team can make sound buying decisions
- Prepare routine reports on order status, lead times, and inventory positions
- Spot patterns and inconsistencies in the data and raise the questions that matter
Cross-Functional Support
- Coordinate with warehouse, planning, and finance teams on incoming orders and receiving priorities
- Support replenishment monitoring to help prevent stockouts and overstock situations
- Assist with special purchasing projects, seasonal volume, and process improvements as directed
What You Need
Must-Haves
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (Business, Supply Chain, Merchandising, Retail Management, Economics, or related field); an Associate’s degree plus relevant experience will also be considered
- 1–3 years of experience in retail, merchandising, purchasing, buying, inventory, or a closely related field—strong early-career candidates are encouraged to apply
- Strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUP and XLOOKUP, for organizing and analyzing data
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented, accurate approach
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication for working with vendors and internal teams
- Comfort learning new systems quickly; willingness to be trained on our purchasing and ERP tools
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
Highly Valued
- Coursework or a degree focused on supply chain, procurement, merchandising, or operations
- Exposure to an ERP, order management, or planning system (SellerCloud, NetSuite, Slimstock, or similar)—training provided
- Familiarity with e-commerce or marketplace operations (Amazon, Walmart, Target, Shopify)
- Basic understanding of purchasing concepts such as lead times, reorder points, or landed cost
- Prior experience in a home goods, textiles, consumer products, or fast-paced retail environment
